WELCOME Welcome to our summer brochure, laying out the diverse and exciting range of shows and events for the rest of the year and in to 2019. We start with a celebration of theatre Made for Windsor, marking eighty years since the Windsor Repertory Company was created at Theatre Royal. Incredible that for all that time we have been offering tailor made theatrical treats for the communities we serve. This year we have six weeks of great titles with special discounts, the more you see the more you save. Our Community Outreach project this year is Cats, finding the best young talent, both performers and creatives, and giving them a chance to shine with our professional team. Book a front row seat for this purr-fect musical treat and discover the stars of tomorrow before everyone else. Following on from the sell-out success of The Shawshank Redemption, the Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company brings an exclusive premiere to Windsor. Rain Man opens its national tour here in August with a star-studded cast: Mathew Horne from Gavin and Stacey plays opposite Ed Speleers of Downton Abbey as the unlikely long-lost brothers. Another example of Theatre Royal offering you, our loyal audience, a theatrical first! With plenty of plays and musicals, family shows, circus, ballet and even dinosaurs, there really is something for everyone across the rest of the year. And of course, our famous seasonal panto is once again outselling every other year. This year we celebrate an amazing eighty years of traditional pantomime at Theatre Royal Windsor. With all that history we must be doing something right, and our audiences are voting with their feet. There are all the silly jokes and familiar songs, tales of rags to riches and daring-do, slosh all over the stage and wonderful set and costumes, and our Dame/ Kevin Cruise/Basil Brush threesome that guarantees fun for everyone. All of this delivered in our intimately beautiful theatre in iconic Windsor with restaurants, bars and shops to suit every taste on our doorstep. Book early to get the tickets you want and enjoy the magic with friends and family.

Following the success of Moira Buffini’s Gabriel in Windsor last year, the Olivier Award winning play and West End smash hit, Handbagged is heading to town. The high-spirited and intelligent drama playfully explores the nature of history and speculates what might have gone on behind closed doors between the two radically different women, Her Majesty and Mrs Thatcher. Handbagged offers a fascinating fictional portrait via not one but two versions of each woman, one destined to rule, the other to lead. This funny, insightful and brilliantly sharp satire is not one to be missed. 8

‘FEW MODERN PLAYWRIGHTS SERVE A FIZZIER CHAMPAGNE OF VERBAL WIT THAN TOM STOPPARD’ THE NEW YORK TIMES BILL KENWRIGHT PRESENTS
ANTHONY ANDREWS HEADS AN ALL STAR CAST IN
‘HYSTERICAL’ BROADWAY WORLD
FREELY ADAPTED FROM FERENC MOLNÁR’S JÁTÉK A KASTÉLYBAN (PLAY AT THE CASTLE) SONGS: MUSIC
LYRICS TOM STOPPARD
BAFTA award-winning star of stage and screen, Anthony Andrews, leads the cast in one of Stoppard’s most hilarious and brilliant plays. Two famous but desperate playwrights are stuck on an Ocean liner headed for New York, feverishly trying to rehearse their latest show before reaching land, and opening night. But they are constantly distracted by their delicate composer’s attempts to end it all, having overheard his lover confess her feelings to the leading man. Add an absurdly unorthodox waiter, a mistimed lifeboat drill and a vanishing glass of brandy and soon the sharp Atlantic winds turn to world-class gales of laughter as these colourful characters become tangled up in a typically Stoppardian string of absurd events. Anthony Andrews is best known for his award-winning performance in Brideshead Revisited and for playing the title roles in Ivanhoe and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
