WELCOME Welcome to our Summer brochure for 2017, a very special year as we celebrate 20 years since Bill Kenwright stepped in to reopen Theatre Royal Windsor. As the only regional producing theatre outside of London running all year round that receives no subsidy at all, we are reliant upon your support. Having one of the most prolific and successful theatrical producers in the UK running things means we can enjoy many benefits compared to other theatres of our size, for example getting exclusive previews
of new and exciting national tours and West End shows. To celebrate this, we have a special season for you, starting in August. To kick things off we welcome the much-requested return of Dreamboats and Petticoats, the best Rock and Roll party in town. This will be followed by the West End hit comedy How the Other Half Loves from the brilliant pen of Alan Ayckbourn, with a superb cast featuring Robert Daws and Sara Crowe. And last, but certainly not least, Martin Shaw returns to Windsor in The Best Man, a timely production of this electric play of political intrigue and the battle for the presidency, and a must see before it heads into the West End. Our Rep Season returns in June, offering a chance to see three plays in three weeks all made in Windsor, especially for you, and all at special prices. And later in the summer, after the success of last year’s West Side Story, we bring another community show to Windsor in August, with Bugsy Malone. It’s the perfect family holiday treat, and also a great opportunity for young people to get involved in making the magic of theatre, with the added benefit of shooting each other with the infamous splurge guns! We are also undertaking a refurbishment programme across the building, so come and see the difference when we reopen in August. As well as our distinctive programme we are also valued for our famously friendly staff, and the whole team look forward to offering you a very warm Theatre Royal welcome to our beautiful historic venue.

Robert Miles, Theatre Director P.S. Don’t forget to book the best seats for panto before they go – it’s selling faster than ever before!

Our Windsor Repertory Festival celebrates a model of theatre making that has recently been debated in the press and online, as actors and directors discuss the value of “Rep” in nurturing tomorrow’s stars. Over 3 weeks a team of professional actors and creatives will prepare a repertoire of plays which will be rehearsed during the day ready to open the following week, while that week’s play is performed each evening.

BY FREDERICK KNOTT

TUE 20 - SAT 24 JUN

This intense way of working is an incredible challenge for the company - and part of the reason we have a generation of actors in the UK with such a wide range of skills. It’s also a joy for audiences - you have the opportunity to enjoy top quality theatre made locally and get to know a company of actors over many different plays. John Counsell created the Windsor Repertory Company here in 1938. In 1988 it enjoyed its 50th birthday - in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother - and we’re delighted to continue that legacy with a season of wonderful plays and a company of the bravest, and brightest, stars of tomorrow!
