Pilot Activity Re: The “Artist Within” 2nd Training “Storytelling and cartoons” Potenza, Italy
1. Description Organization: EURO-NET Date: 11.08.2015 Venue: Potenza (Italy) Age group: about 25 - 50 Target group: people with personal or professional interest Gender: both women and men Time: 4 hours 2. General introduction: The second pilot activity realized in Potenza was addressed to people in helping professions and teachers interested in learning more in the storytelling and cartoons, also in this case, for personal and/or for professional interest. The recruitment of the participants at this second pilot activity was realized involving interested persons from - our staff, - graphic expert with which we work - young people that would like to learn how to use this knowledge to promote their own organizations Of course, this time, the pilot activity was promoted to explain the advantages in using such techniques and to see if it should be possible to organize new activities at national/regional/local level in this field. 2 The coordination of all activity was followed by our staff, that supported the trainers/mentors for each necessity, favoring the meeting and giving all the necessary support. The meeting started with the participants’ spresentation and continued with the workshop explanation made by one person of our team. Of course we gave the opportunity to use our computers to make some animation exercise. During the meeting were explained very quickly some of the techniques of the workshop to understand the interest of the persons if following this kind of activity: the result was marvelous. All the participants explained their great interest to follow a course in this field so, for sure, in the future we will organize new sessions of this kind of workshop at local level. In fact we made at the end of the pilot training a kind of round table with the participants to understand their personal ideas and we obtained a very nice evaluation: everybody expressed interest and volunty to be trained in this field for personal and or professional motivations.
3. Some evaluation from the participants: Fabio: “The storyboard workshop can permit useful ways of communication to overcome problems or barriers of normal languages while the cartoon is really useful for the promotion of the organizations because you can create little animations to promote them and spread their activities” Ilaria: “I would like to realise a training for young people to learn storytelling, storyboard and simple animation in flash. So this kind of workshop is really important to understand all the possible skills necessary to develop a such initiative” 4.Personal reflection from one participants: Following the indication of the Hungarian coordinator of the project together with the other participants at the Italian workshop on “Storytelling and cartoons” organized in Potenza, I have realized a pilot event on August the 11th. I have invited to participate at this meeting various graphic workingfor different NGO’s and local associations, explaining them it could be useful for their job and for their organization to follow this event. I was excited to do this activity because I noted that different persons that I invited came to the event. The event was organized from about 16:00 till about 20:00 in the office of the association EURO-NET. Me and the other participants prepared the room with tables, chairs, videobeam and computers to be used during the event. The event was organized in different step: each of the participantsat the Italian workshop developed a part of it. My part was the 3rd after Chiara and Antonino and before Gianluca’s one. Just to give you some detail, the first part was an introduction to the project and the workshop the second part was about the storytelling the third (mine) was about the flash animation the fourth about possible exercises and specific software tools. I spoke (after the 2 other “colleagues” and a little coffee break) for about 1 hour and more or less other 20 minutes explaining why it is useful to use the software flash to create simple animated video that can be used to promote the activities or the initiatives of every organization. It was not the first time that I did this kind of work because I am quite specialized and expert in this field so the information I gave were a kind of summary of activities done during the Italian workshop. I was helped in my personal phase of presentation by a computer and a videobeam with which I showed the most important software commands. I also answered to many questions that arrived from the participants about the use of the methodologies and about my personal suggestions in organizing such kind of activities. I was delighted to see that all the participants were so interested in the activity done and how they were fascinated to have the opportunity to use in the future new competences and knowledge in this sector.
After me, Gianluca continued the explanation of the software and invited the participants in some exercise in which they used the computers to realise some little and very simple animation. Finally, at the end of the evening and of the work done during the pilot, it was asked to the participants to say if the activity was attractive for them and the result was very good.
