The Arc Baltimore is one of the nation’s most respected organizations of its kind. Our comprehensive services help approximately 4,000 people with developmental disabilities live and work as independently as possible in the community. Their personal preferences are the building blocks for the individualized support plans we create. We also provide resources for families and advocate zealously for those we support through public policy and civil rights issues.

COMMUNITY LIVING The Arc Baltimore helps people with disabilities participate in community life while living as independently as possible in their family’s home or in their choice of house or apartment with Arc support. Staff, friends and advocates help enhance their daily living skills, form new relationships, access community resources and exercise the rights and responsibilities of good citizenship. COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT We offer several kinds of supported employment opportunities at companies throughout the Baltimore region. Supported work crews. Individuals work as part of a small group, with a job coach, in an office or warehouse production facility. Landscape and janitorial crews. With ongoing supervision at hundreds of sites, Arc supported
workers provide complete grounds maintenance services and state-of-the-art commercial cleaning. The ever-present goal is to increase workers’ skills and provide opportunities for advancement.
FAMILY AND CHILDREN SERVICES The Arc Baltimore offers a variety of services to help families support their child with developmental disabilities.
Individual placement. Some people prefer to work more independently and receive benefits as a direct employee of a company. A job coach provides as-needed training in fields such as clerical, retail, food services, manufacturing and other areas that complement career interests.

Day centers. Six Arc Baltimore locations operate as staging areas for employment and job training. With staff support, people at the centers enhance their skills related to daily life, communication, transportation and socializing. Many individuals participate in volunteer activities and community classes. Centers also monitor the health and wellbeing of participants as needed.

plans. Our trained staff can provide care and training in the home. ● Our respite care program provides income-based
financial assistance to families for a limited number of hours/days of care for a family member with a developmental disability. ● We administer a fund that provides a wide array of
supports, from eyeglasses and adaptive equipment to dental care and diapers. ● Our treatment foster care program operates
licensed foster homes that provide safe, loving and therapeutic care for infants, children, teens and young adults who have medical, emotional and behavioral challenges. ● We host an ongoing family education series on
topics such as estate planning, IEPs and sibling issues. ● Our Parents’ Day Out program gives moms and
dads time off while their children play in safe environments like churches, synagogues and community centers, under the care of trained volunteers and staff. ● We sponsor Bay Buddies, a popular summer
enrichment program for school-aged children.
Additional Resources As part of our commitment to helping people reach their goals, The Arc offers a variety of other support services. These include information and referrals to community resources; transportation assistance; individual and family counseling; help securing government benefits and accessing adaptive technology; and nursing and psychological services. Members of The Helping Hands self-advocacy group participate actively in Maryland’s legislative process to ensure equal opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Members meet monthly to strategize, plan fundraisers and perform community service. Volunteers and interns share their time and talents to help people connect with the community and improve daily living skills. We offer internships as well as individual, group and family volunteer opportunities in direct service, administration, fundraising, special events and advocacy. Members and donors receive our newsletters and annual report plus updates and benefits from The Arc United States and The Arc Maryland.
