To familiarize  students   with  the  historical   setting  at  the  time   Lorraine  Hansberry   wrote  A  Raisin  in  the   Sun.   Students  will  be   exposed  to  a  different   era  of  American  life,   showing  that  many  of   today’s  conflicts  are   not  new.     To  have  students   appreciate  the   relevance  and   significance  of  the  title   of  the  play  and  the   poem  “A  Dream   Deferred”   To  have  students  gain   a  better  understanding   of  their  own  dreams   and  values     To  identify  the  main   themes  in  Act  1   To  show  how  setting  is   integral  in  the   development  of   themes  in  the  play   To  identify   characteristics  of  each   member  of  the  family     Generally  review  the   plot  of  the  play   Practice  answering   essay  type  questions
