AIM Director Tanya Van der Westhuizen AIM Director Tanya Van der Westhuizen of Randpark Ridge, South Africa, has earned quite a bit in the Dollars to Diamonds contest. She uses several methods to sign up new Members: giving testimonials when doing workshops, organizing charity events, sharing AIM articles and following up with clients and potential clients. She hasn’t been to Nashville, but it’s on her bucket list and she’d love to see and experience it. “I started with AIM last year (September 2015) and decided to do a charity talk for our church that reaches out to underprivileged children: ‘Food for Hungry Children.’ At this event we de­ cided to talk to women and empower them with knowledge of the hormonal system. Staying Healthy This Holiday Season by Leré Robinson, Star Sapphire Director and Nutrition Consultant

This month, Thanksgiving is celebrated in the USA. It is so easy to use festive seasons as an excuse to eat loads of unhealthy, decadent foods. Holidays are full of food challenges. Do you find yourself eating way too much mashed potatoes? Pumpkin pie? Do those precious pounds you managed to shed these past eleven months find you again? Well, healthy holiday eating is not as challenging as you think.

Tips to Keep It Clean and Stay Lean

Don't be afraid to experiment with food; some of the best recipes are created that way. As you prepare your cooked meals throughout this festive season, why not add a freshly stacked, mouthwatering raw salad?

Layered Festive Salad

Layer the following on a large platter: Fresh organic mixed greens, sliced baby tomatoes, diced red, yellow and orange bell peppers, cucumber, grated carrots, spring onions or red onions, freshly diced pineapple or ovenbaked butternut squash, raw sunflower seeds and a sprinkle of cranberries and pecans. Before serving, top it with freshly diced avocado and fresh lemon juice. Served with fresh vinaigrette, it really is delicious and bursting with live, raw enzymes!

desserts. If you really want to indulge in a decadent dessert, share it with someone: only half the fat and calories. If eating a cheesecake or apple pie, try to avoid the pastry or crust as this is where the fat and carbs lurk. Swap out cream-based soups for brothbased veggie soups. Be active; we were born to move. It is a wonderful way to release toxins, manage weight and keep our skin glowing. Stay hydrated. Start your day with hot water, freshly squeezed lemon juice and zested ginger. Ginger is a natural decongestant and it contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds.

AIM Helps End Twenty Years of Back Pain Shared by Samuel Wu, Group Builder in New York

I have had chronic back pain since I was fourteen. My doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong, but according to the X-ray, my spine wasn’t straight and certain joints were out of alignment.

In September, I returned to New York, where the cold temperature made my back feel a bit better. This was the time I heard Dr. Yu-Shiaw Chen’s story about her back pain from lifting a baby.

Elizabeth DeGroot suffered from abnormal bleeding for two years after giving birth to her son. “I had two dilation and curettage (D&C) surgical procedures done, but they didn’t work. Reducing Your Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease There is strong evidence that the Westernpattern diet increases your risk of Alzheimer’s disease. When the Western diet became popular in Japan, the rate of Alzheimer’s rose from 1 to 7 percent in a little under twenty-five years. It is now estimated that every citizen of the United States has a 4 percent chance of developing Alzheimer’s. That’s downright scary. Meat, or the saturated fat in meat, is believed to be a major culprit, alongside trans fat and sugar. Saturated fats raise the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the blood. LDL cho­ lesterol is not only bad for the heart, but it’s also terrible for the brain. Cholesterol and fat, researchers think, speed up the formation of plaque in the brain, which may cause the damage associated with Alzheimer’s. A study in Annals of Neurology tested the cognitive functioning of female sub­ jects with various diets. Those who consumed the most saturated fats per­ formed worst on exams.

Exercise, smoking cessation and weight loss also reduce the risks, and there are quite a few dietary approaches too. Doctors have recommended the Mediterranean diet because it is low in red meat and eggs but high in fish, vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains and olive oil. This diet doesn’t combat the disease directly, but instead protects the blood vessels. Heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes are all risk factors, so a balanced diet provides holistic protection. Vitamin K along with other nutrients like lutein—found in ample amounts in AIM prod­ ucts like BarleyLife, GinkgoSense and Leaf­Greens—have been shown to slow rates of cognitive decline, according to a 2015 report by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. They examined nearly 1,000 elderly adults for a five-year period and found that those who consumed two servings of vegetables daily had the cognitive ability of a person eleven years younger than those who consumed none! The researchers believe that vitamin K, folate, beta-carotene and lutein were likely responsible for the benefits. Hopefuls submit applications and audition tapes if they cannot try out in person. AIM-sponsored ballet dan­ cer Chelsea Wewege of Durban, South Africa, was selected based solely on her video, a rare feat. She’s also won two scholarships to the American Academy of Ballet Summer School of Excellence in New York City, earned her American Academy of Ballet Performance Awards to level twelve (with gold distinction) and passed her advanced Royal Academy of Ballet Exam also with distinction.
