At a concelebrated Mass prior to the opening of the 94th annual meeting of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus, closing today in Boston, Bishop Daniel A. Cronin raised a "lantern of warning" to sig·nal that "the moral fiber of our nation is weakening," and he called on Catholics to take action against the situation. Archbishop Bernardin WASHINGTON (NC) - The president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops said Democratic presidential nominee -Jimmy Carter's position on abortion is still "inconsistent," but he also praised Carter for distancing himself from the Democratic party's platform plank opposing a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's abortion decisions.
