Auto store moves to where it really ought to be By Jamie Adams
It might have only hopped over to the other side of the Basin Reserve, but Repco Wellington’s new location will make a huge difference, its branch manager says. The auto parts store moved from 77 Kent Terrace to 81-83 Adelaide Road three weeks ago, with its new doors opening on August 11. Manager Lindsay Cook said the move after 12 years at Kent Tce was very necessary due to that road being a logistical nightmare for customers, especially traders. “State Highway One from Vivian Street to the Basin Reserve has the highest traffic volume in the lower North Island, with 28,000 cars a day,” he said. “Even Saturday and Sunday gets gridlocked as well.” Moving to Adelaide Road meant they could operate more efficiently while
still being committed to the central business district. As well as the easier access, with traffic no longer being prevented from turning right by a solid median, another benefit is extra space. Not only is the building slightly bigger but there is more than double the number of car parks – from eight at Kent Tce to 18. “The amount of people saying its a great place is extraordinary.” Repco plans to celebrate the move with an official opening weekend on September 2-3. As well as special deals, a sausage sizzle and radio coverage, for a gold coin donation customers can go into Repco’s “Win a Spin” draw. The winner will receive a ride in either a Ferrari Spider or a Lamborghini Diablo courtesy of Mike Cooper, owner of Luxury Rides Wellington. All donations will go to Mary Potter Hospice. PBA.
