MIKE GRIGG Local Wainuiomata identity since 1986

Who is one person, dead or alive, you would love to have a meal with? Marilyn Monroe – she was a celebrity, wasn’t she? She was a fun-loving lady, wasn’t she?

What would you change about the world? I`d outlaw politicians - they create too many problems, we don’t need these problems – we need a nice quiet life.

Hundreds of local children are expected to enter the Sanitarium Weet-Bix TRYathlon on Thursday and get up close with some of New Zealand’s top athletes. The event is the world’s largest under 16 triathlon, and is to be held at the Hutt Recreation Ground, starting at 10am. Participants will swim, cycle and run their way to the finish line to receive a medal from former Silver Fern Irene Van Dyk, New Zealand Women’s Sevens player Portia Woodman and Black Sticks Hockey Player Kayla Whitelock. This years series marks the 25th anniversary of the event, with entries up 10 percent on last year. The increase in children aged 7-15 enrolling for the iconic sporting event has continued each year: the very first event, in 1992, saw just 800 entrants; while numbers for last year’s events topped 28,000. The TRYathlon events are running throughout New Zealand from December until April.
