Enjoy a cruise We offer you memorable cruising on the beautiful Whanganui River. Our PS Waimarie is truly New Zealand’s premier Heritage experience. Feel the history as our ancestors plied the Whanganui River aboard Paddle steamer Waimarie, New Zealand’s last true paddle steamer (est.1900), still coal fired and still steam powered. On board you will find covered and open decks, comfortable saloons, licensed bar and cafe. Meet the legendary Mr Alexander Hatrick, original owner of this magnificent old

lady. Send a pigeon message back to the Riverboat Centre. Stoke the fire that heats the boiler to drive the two great paddle wheels. View the pictorial screenings of life on the Whanganui River and enjoy tea, coffee, a beer or a wine as you cruise, surrounded by true New Zealand Heritage. Even the crew are dressed for the occasion. Please contact us with your personal requirements so that we can offer you our very affordable pricing options.

RIVER COTTAGE is situated in a secluded spot well away from busy roads – with only the sounds of nature to break the silence. Enjoy a few hours on the verandah or just soak up the ambience inside. A great place

to relax and unwind amongst the beauty of the bush and bordering the Ohau River, River Cottage is in the heart of the Horowhenua District - 100kms north of Wellington and 50km south of Palmerston North.

Having some fun, swimming and playing at the beach, a slow river cruise and a family picnic? Throw in some sport, some culture and some V8 noise and excitement? Relax at a café with a coffee and friends before strolling along a boulevard of boutique shopping? Where’s the one place you can find all of this without having to move too far? Whanganui. Really. Whanganui. Whanganui is a unique treasure in the North Island having shared its natural beauty and many attractions with settlers from over 175 years ago. Whanganui’s summer is full of events to spice up the lazy days – the world famous Cemetery Circuit Motorcycle Street Races, judged NZ’s best established regional event for 2015 is held on Boxing Day every year and the V8 Jet Sprint Championships thunder around a purpose built water track at Shelterview on the following day.

Whanganui’s Vintage Weekend kicks off for Wellington’s Anniversary Weekend. From street festivals, riverside entertainment, classic and vintage cars, and a boundless banquet held in the main street there’s plenty to see and do. If your family is all outdoors and action then head for a river kayak or jet boat experience, mountain biking trails or out to Bushy Park Sanctuary to see an enormous and ancient Rata tree. Explore the stars and Saturn from the Ward Observatory on a Friday night. Try a spot of fishing on the banks of the Whanganui River or sail on the Waimarie paddle steamer for a settler’s view of river life. For a few laid back options include the Whanganui Regional Museum, a computer clubhouse, a trip in the underground elevator built to travel 66 metres inside a hill or learn some glass blowing techniques. Visitors come for many reasons but whatever these might be it’s a brilliant place for a family visit.

Whanganui is big enough to entertain and small enough to keep it real. Enjoy arts, music, the landscape and our rich heritage.

Spend a weekend.
