Time-banking founder to speak in capital By Sam Duff

The well-known founder of the international timebanking movement is set to speak in the capital for the first time thanks to the Wellington Timebank. Self-declared humanitarian Dr Edgar Cahn will speak in Wellington on September 1 on his way to join the Lyttleton Timebank for their 10th anniversary celebrations. The Wellington Timebank, based at the Newtown Community Centre, was started in 2011 and is now a community of 600 members trading more than 400 hours a month. Members exchange their time and skills, including everything from companionship to haircuts and fishing lessons. Wellington Timebank joined the effort to get Dr Cahn to visit New Zealand for Lyt-

Top place Te Papa has been named one of Lonely Planet’s top 500 places on the planet for people to experience. The national museum is one of nine New Zealand destinations named on the list put together by the popular travel guide book series. Te Papa chief executive says he is delighted that the museum made the cut. “It’s especially exciting to be the one manmade place in New Zealand on the list,” he says. “When you find yourself in the company of Fiordland National Park and Waitomo Caves, you know you are doing something right!”

At South Wellington Intermediate we don’t see these two years as solely a time to prepare students for High School, but rather see it as a unique and special time where the journey into adolescence is valued. Students are supported to become independent learners, thinkers and actors, and the apron strings of Primary school are loosened to allow greater autonomy, exploration, inspiration and self management. We can’t wait to share the next two years of your child’s learning journey with you.
