FAKE

Christmas 2011 FREE

Season’s Greetings

We’ve put together a little catalogue; a FAKE guide to Christmas shopping. Firstly, we’d recommend visiting our lovely stockists (p19) and having a few drinks with the Sugarfoot Stomp (p17) and Kino 10 (p8) if you are out and about in Birmingham on 23rd December. In this free online FAKE publication, you will find the online shops of some of our past contributors, and some ‘best bits’ by them from Issues One to Three. We hope this shows you some of the fantastic work that our FAKE family create, as it’s especially for people like you. To our new readers, hello and welcome to FAKE. We hope you like what you see and that you’ll make the most out of our special Christmas subscription offer. We are a quarterly, independent publication; the work of two friends who have the same passion for creating something tactile, beautiful to look at and interesting to read. FAKE gives you access to the latest independent creative talent. We are in development of Issue Four as we speak (type!) and we are discovering yet more incredibly talented individuals to share with you. It’s been a fantastic first year for FAKE and we look forward to 2012. We wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy new year (Good tidings we bring... etc etc) Love Kerry & Sophie Co-Editors

FAKE is stocked with some lovely people. Here is a little more information about three of them. Birmingham C.O.W Studio brings inspired artist-run craft workshops to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Located in a first floor studio, Creative Open Workshops (C.O.W) range from making Byzantine chain bracelets, lampshades or laptop sleeves, to floaty dresses and tote bags. It’s a relaxed space for individuals who enjoy hand-making crafts. Larger parties for hens, birthdays, reunions, or any special occasion can be held at C.O.W by arranging a ‘pick and mix’ craft workshop with its founder, Francine Schokker. The full menu of social craftiness is updated regularly on their website www.cow-studio.com. To book a workshop, ring 0121 212 9132 or email hello@cow-studio.com. Leeds Leeds Corn Exchange is proud to champion the very best in creative, innovative and independent retail enterprises, and the building’s striking features provide the backdrop for a unique shopping experience. Now just one of three Corn Exchanges in the country which still operates in its traditional capacity as a centre for trade, Leeds Corn Exchange sits at the heart of the local community. Two of our editorials for this issue took place in the Leeds Corn Exchange, and FAKE featured independent retailer MKI’s garments in Issue Two. There is also space to hire for classes, rehearsals and for meetings. To see what’s on at the OFS: www.oldfirestation.info, or call 01865 263980 for general enquiries.
