Enrollment Accredited Hotels Tourism In Brazil Seminar Trips Excursions

Under the theme Tourism and Inclusion: on behalf of a humanistic and social view of tourism in the Americas - the objective of the Americas Meeting for Social Tourism is to induce the participant into thinking about the relevance of tourism as an instrument of social, cultural and economic inclusion to the American Continent. Tourism is based on solidarity, on the valuation of diversities and on democracy. To achieve its objective, the seminar will include lectures that will discuss the rich panorama of social tourism in the Americas, as well as inducing thinking about inclusion and education through tourism. Experiences in inclusive tourism will also be approached, leading to discussions on non conventional practices that democratize access to tourism, which are predicated on the cultural, environmental and economic sustainability of the places visited. The activities that are to be carried out prior to and after the seminar include visits to destinations that have been especially selected to deepen the participant’s thinking about the importance of the practice of sustainable tourism, which would be responsible and accessible to all not only in São Paulo but also in other Brazilian states. The Americas Meeting for Social Tourism is an accomplishment of SESC in the State of São Paulo, and of the Office for International Organization of Social Tourism in the Americas – OITS Americas.

Santos: Paquetá Treasures (Santos, SP)

tion escrip The dhe route of t land is over ble in availa ese and gu o P rtunglish. E

Santos, a major city located on the São Paulo seashore, has preserved a rich historical and cultural heritage, which has been deeply ingrained in the day to day lives of the local population. This is the case of the Paquetá district, where the houses, which in the past were occupied by well to do merchants, has been transformed in tenement slum houses where some 16 thousand people live. The current dwellers, who are subject to precarious living conditions, have organized themselves and they have created the Downtown Slum Dweller’s Association (ACC) which advocates dignified homes and better social conditions for the community. During this visit in which you will be accompanied by the people living in the neighborhood, you will be introduced to the daily life in this part of town by examining the social endeavors of the association: a school-bakery, a school-restaurant, a day care center and a condominium built by joint efforts. Through this workshop you will learn about the work of the craftswomen of the Raízes Corticeiras (slum roots) group, and, in the end of the trip, you will take a ride on a catraia, which is a typical mode of transportation used by the area workers to cross to Santos-Vicente de Carvalho, in Guarujá.
