CHARITY NIGHT’S SUCCESS

Julie King of Tewkesbury House Dental Practice has been raising money for the Breast Cancer Unit in Cheltenham, ever since she was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. She normally runs a week long pink event at the Dental Practice in Barton Street each October, but this year she went one better and organised a charity event at the Watson Hall, which was held last month. This turned out to be a fantastic night out for over 180 people. Seventies legends The Union Gap played live, together with Paul Garland's Disco and the Pink Bra Belly Dancing Team. There was also an auction and a raffle, which was drawn by TV presenter Adam Henson of Countryfile fame. Sharon from Tewkesbury Police station also joined in the fun, turning up with her hair died pink after being given permission to do so by her boss. Julie had never done anything like this before but she was so pleased with the response that she is already planning a similar event for 2013.

UP FOR THE BREDON HILL CHALLENGE? Fitness fanatics will be out in force this month, taking part in a challenging charity triathlon around Bredon Hill. The Great Bredon Hill Challenge, on Saturday 12th May, involves a 400 metre swim, 22 mile cycle ride and a 5km run. The start and finish is at Croft Farm, Bredon’s Hardwick. The event has been arranged in memory of Henry ScotSimmonds. The organisers say it’s a real opportunity for entrants to get fit and challenge themselves although they intend it to be a fun event where competitors go as fast or slow as they wish. The deserving charities which will benefit from monies raised will be St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Starting time is 8.00am, with a competitors’ briefing taking place at 7.45am. Free

refreshments will be provided throughout the event (for competitors) and there will be prizes for the fastest in each

category as well as for the top fundraisers. A hog roast (plus bar) will follow the event around 2pm.
