"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:7, 18

Managua, Nicaragua Director’s Note

We are excited to share with you another update of the ministries that continue to take place at Tesoros de Dios. We are so pleased by the number of teams and volunteers that have visited us so far this year and for our ability to serve 80 children and families through your support. Thank you all for your faithful generosity and prayers for our program. Enjoy reading! ~ Michelle Adams, director

Day of the Child In February, the families of Tesoros de Dios were treated to a day at a waterpark by a work team from Church of the Messiah UMC in Westerville, OH. The name of the waterpark was Hertylandia, located about an hour drive outside Managua. Four school buses were arranged to take everyone, and God’s presence could be felt during the ride with so much happiness in the air. The water was truly a blessing in providing the children an environment to temporarily escape their special needs. The day was just as meaningful to work team members. For some, it was their first experience holding children with special needs. Others commented how thankful they were to be able to demonstrate God’s love and to give parents even just a brief reprieve from their duties. Afterwards, one parent described the team as “God’s angels”. Several mothers also had this to say: “Hertylandia was a very beautiful experience for us, as it was a time to share with our kids and some of their sponsors and all the staff of Tesoros de Dios. With gratitude for the love you have for our kids, thank you for bringing us a moment of happiness, fun and sharing with us. As mothers, this trip served as part of the therapy for our kids and for us. In the same way, as mothers we thank you for the valuable time that you dedicated to make us happy with our children.”

God’s Treasures

Student Spotlight:

Currently, we are able to serve 80 children and families, and provide 11 jobs to local Nicaraguan staff members who help our children to reach their full, God-given potential. The needs are still great here in Nicaragua, with 14 children currently on our growing waiting list and over 12,000 children in need of special services in Managua alone.

Moises Carlos Law Rodriguez

As most of you know, we started a 501(c)3 (nonprofit organization) in Illinois last year called God’s Treasures (Tesoros de Dios in Spanish). With this new non-profit, we will be able to become an independent organization in Nicaragua with hopes to grow to reach more of the population here. We have been working on ways to stabilize income for our on-going budget, and are pleased to share the following sponsorship opportunities: Sponsor a Child - $30/month Sponsor a Day of Operations - $200 Sponsor a Week of Operations - $1,000 Sponsor Transportation Needs for a Day - $60 Sponsor Transportation Needs for a Week - $300 Sponsor Horse Therapy for a Week - $30 Sponsor Horse Therapy for a Month - $125 Feel free to contact us at info@tesorosdedios.org or look on our web page for more information. We are so thankful for all of you and the generosity you continue to give to ensure that the kids we serve can reach their fullest potential in life.

Moises is an 11 year old boy who has been diagnosed with Rubenstein-Taybi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects cognitive abilities and physical stature. He belongs to a strong Christian family who love and support him. Moises has fun dancing, singing, and playing with balls. Tesoros de Dios has helped him grow in such a way that his mobility has improved a lot. Due to his weight, he cannot ride the horse; however he is able to socialize with the horse by touching and combing him. In class, he is able to recognize numbers from 1 to 10, vowels and primary colors. His fine motor skills have improved. He is able to play memory games on the computer. It has been exciting to see Moises’s growth in our program, and beautiful to see the family’s commitment to making sure he truly reaches his full potential.
