How To Retain The Kingdom of God
Terrence J. White
How To Retain The Mind of Christ Very often I hear about “the kingdom of God” and how the kingdom of god is within you, on television or socially. Like many others I pray and read about what the kingdom of God is,so I have wondered about the kingdom principles, which I would think are the attributes of what is the kingdom of God or how to retain the kingdom of God. In studying and reading, I came across the book of Romans and in one specific scripture…my eyes were opened to an unattractive, unsatisfactory feature of character. Reading further, this one verse describes how God gives people over to a mind state of evil or morally wrong lives. The Bible describes them as people who speak softly – whispering about others, having or showing a great desire to possess something belonging to someone else, they maliciously talk about someone who is not present (I don’t know about you but I don’t like to be talked about behind my back), they bring around a bad or troublesome/destructive nature, they are unintelligent (now these descriptions are Lexicon definitions of the Greek and Hebrew words which I go into greater detail in the book, not my own personal opinion), they are inoperative in agreements and they are without natural affection. As soon as I realized who it was speaking of I immediately wanted to learn how to retain the kingdom of God so that I did not become one of those described because they were know as castaways and rejects! I mean, I love me some Jesus, I want to live right and as hard as it is trying to live a righteous life I’m far from perfect but I sure don’t want to be described as not having personal affection or destructive in nature! Now the Bible is like a never-ending onion in that there are always layers to peel off and the deeper I went the more juice started to flow out!! Not only is this filled with what was discovered in scripture and biblical resources but also historic tools breaking down the literal meanings as well as context!
This is the very passage that caught my attention. After reading it several times continue on to learn how to retain the kingdom of God. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. -Romans 1:28-32 KJV
This writing has been separated in to four parts The Error - where the people went wrong "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge"
The Consequence - the result of their wrong "God gave them over to a reprobate mind"
The Result - God’s description of them "to do those things which are not convenient"
This writing end with practical ways to refrain from experiencing the consequence. How To Retain The Kingdom of God
The Consequence "God gave them over to a reprobate mind" Reprobate - adokimos G96: also translates to "castaway" or "rejected" • Not standing the test - not approved - properly used of metals and coins • That which does not prove it self such as it ought - unfit for, unapproved, spurious (false, fake) Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the Lord hath rejected them. -Jeremiah 6:30 KJV 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary Reprobate: 1. not enduring truth or trial; not allowed of standard purity or fineness; disallowed; rejected 2. Abandoned in sin; lost virtue or grace They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. -Titus 1:16 KJV
The Result “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” being filled with: • all unrighteousness • Sexual immorality • Covetousness • Maliciousness Full of: • Envy • Murder • Strife • Deceit • Evil-minded ness They are: • Whispers • Backbiters • Haters of God • Violent • Proud • Boasters • Inventors of evil things • Disobedient to parents • Undiscerning • Untrustworthy • Unloving
The Error "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge" The immediate question I had was: "How do I retain God in my knowledge?," then I wanted to understand what the Bible meant by retain. Retain - echo G2192: to have (hold) in the hand, in the sense of wearing; to have (hold) possession of the mind (refers to alarm, agitating emotions, etc.); to adhere or cling to; to have, to be or need in the sense of business. Knowledge - epignosis G1922: precise and correct knowledge of things ethical and divine A great understanding to have: It is by business to have God in my knowledge.
How To Retain The Knowledge of God The error was men did not love God which led to them not keeping His word (the knowledge of Him in all things). Yet if these few steps are practice then there is a separation making one who does the word of God a light to the lost versus having an evil mind, being of vain glory, full of deceit, or seen in the eyes of God as unrighteous - which basically means not in right standing with God. If being in right standing with God is something desired then these next few scriptures and definitions will greatly help. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. -Philippians 2:3, 4 KJV • Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory Strife - a desire to put ones self forward; denotes a self-seeking pursuit of political office by unfair means Vain-glory- self-esteem, empty pride; a vain opinion, error; boastfulness • But in lowliness Humility • Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. -Mark 9:35 KJV Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. -John 15:13 KJV Lay down- tithemi G5087: (in a constant active sense) to lay off, put aside, to set, to put , to place, "kneel down" If ye love me, keep my commandments. -John 14:15 KJV
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. -Mark 12:28-31 KJV
About The Author Taking men from dreamers to leaders, Terrence J. White, owner of My Joy In The Morning, has a vision to take ordinary individuals and lead them into their destiny. Maximizing their potential by taking them through a process of self discovery, he asserts that "God has given each man and woman desires, those desires cause a yearning. This pulling on the soul is what is mentioned in the bible when God says He knew us before we were in our mothers womb. Also too, there are thousands out there that have no clue what their calling is or are fearful to walk into their destiny. God has given me - and continues to every day - the tools, resources and wisdom to help unlock the action needed to press others into their destiny." A strong statement for such a young man and he makes clear the process he endured in his book My Joy In The Morning: Rising From The Ashes. As many have already ideas of what God has called them to do he takes current leaders and ordinary individuals, then presses them to be the light in a dark world they are meant to be.
