Au fil des années, la question du French Shore cause beaucoup de problèmes entre pêcheurs français et Terre-Neuviens installés à demeure et de plus en plus nombreux sur toute la côte de Terre-Neuve. En 1904, dans le cadre de l’Entente Cordiale entre la France et l’Angleterre qui règle plusieurs questions coloniales, la France abandonne le French Shore.

Over the years it became more and more difficult to sustain the French Shore as French fishermen came up against permanent English-speaking Newfoundlanders whose numbers kept growing and whose presence was felt along all the coast. In 1904, when France and England settled their colonial disagreements by signing the Entente Cordiale, France gave up its rights on the French Shore.
