TRANSMISSION OF TIBETAN MEDICAL AND ASTROLOGICAL TEXT BY VEN. GANOR RINPOCHE His Eminence Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche kindly accepted to bestow the oral transmission on Tibetan medicine and astrology text on the request of Men-TseeKhang, Dharamsala. Rinpoche gave the Medicine Buddha Empowerment initiation from Terma tradition on 31 March, 2013. All the doctors, astrologers and staff received the empowerment. The oral transmission started from 1 April, 2013 followed with Gyueshi (the four Tantras of Tibetan Medicine) for 17 days from 1-17 April; Men-ngag lhenthab (a supplementary treatise to the Oral Instruction Tantra of Tibetan Medicine) for 8 days. From 29-30 April, Rinpoche conferred the oral transmission, on some of the therapeutic methods and the ritualistic procedures of Sa-dak thrug-choe (a naga ritual).

He also gave the oral transmission of treatment method of: pediatric disorders through breast milk analysis, mandibular dislocation and pediatric liver disorder and Tsug or heating therapy on 29
April morning. The consecration of Medicine spiritual blessings for the pharmacy and medicine store continued for 3 days from 4-6, May, 2013. The 1st part of the astrological text called Bendurya Karpo (the white beryl) oral transmission started from 2 May for seven days. The oral transmissions and blessings continued for almost one and half
month in Men-Tsee-Khang. A mandala offering or long life ceremony was held on 13 May afer the conclusion of transmission, blessings and consecration by Rinpoche. He advised all the staff to work hard as this is the place where one can stirve to benefit others and to preserve and develop the two important cultures of Tibetan medicine and astrology. South America Men-Tsee-Khang outreach programme to Buenos Aires, Argentina; Temuco & Santiago, Chile; and Bogota, Colombia in South America was held from April 9 to May 5, 2013. M e n - Ts e e - K h a n g administration, deputed a three member team led by Dr. Jamyang Dolma (head of Research & Development Department), Mrs. Sonam Palmo (astrology lecturer, College) and Mr. Tseten Dorjee (personal assistant to the Director) to South America. The tour was facilitated by the Liaison Officer to Latin America, Central Tibetan Administration Mr. Tsewang Phuntso. 12-18 April, 2013 Buenos Aires, Argentina The outreach programme at Buenos Aires was organized by Lama Rinchen Khandro and Lama Men-Tsee-Khang
Sangye la of Kagyu Thekchen Choeling. On 13 April, Dr. Jamyang Dolma gave a presentation on the role of diet and behaviour in maintaining healthy mind and body at the Foundation of Health Science. There were around 200 people who attended the talk. Lama Rinchen la translated the talk into Spanish. Mrs. Sonam Palmo spoke on introduction of Tibetan astrology and its role in Tibetan medicine practice. While Dr. Jamyang Dolma talked on the holistic approach and the role of diet and behaviour in Tibetan medicine at Kagyu Thekchen Choeling on 14 April, 2013. There were around 40 people in both the lectures. The team visited the General
Tibetan medicine & Tibetan medical approach on mental health. There were about 50 people mostly doctors, nurses and staff from the hospital. At Kagyu Thekchen Choeling, Dr. Jamyang Dolma spoke on ageing in healthy way in Tibetan medicine and around 40 interested people attended the presentation. On 17 April, Dr. Jamyang Dolma presented a lecture on practical introduction to Tibetan medicine at the Military General Hospital. The doctor also attended the interview on the view of cancer in Tibetan medicine and its treatment at Kagyu Thekchen Choeling and Mrs. Sonam Palmo spoke on introduction to Tibetan astrology and its role in Tibetan medicine practice. The talk was attended by around 30 people. During the seven days in Buenos Aires, the doctor and astrologer gave presentations on Tibetan medicine and astrology and Mr. Tsetan Dorjee assisted in dispensing herbal supplements and

herbal products. 19-24 April, 2013 Temuco, Chile Brigitte Leisinger, organiser and a group of Tibetan supporters received the team and discussed about the various programmes scheduled at Temuco. On 20 April, the team visited University of Santos Tomas where Dr. Jamyang Dolma and Mrs. Sonam Palmo jointly presented a lecture on introduction to Tibetan Medicine, and the role of Tibetan astrology in Tibetan medicine respectively. There were about 60 university students including health professionals who attended the presentation. A lecture on diagnostics & therapeutics approach in Tibetan medicine was given by Dr. Jamyang Dolma at the University of Santos Tomas for health professionals. A total of about 45 people mostly therapists joined the presentation.
22-24 April, 2013 Santiago, Chile In Santiego, organizer Ana Maria Clasing briefed the team about the upcoming programme schedule there. On 23 April, at the University of Pacifico, Dr. Jamyang Dolma gave a presention on Tibetan medical approach to mental health. There were about 70 psychology students and doctors who participated in the lecture. At the Institute of Dr. Luis Pedreros, director of Latin American School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, health consulation according to traditional Tibetan system of health care was provided by Dr. Jamyang Dolma. Mrs. Sonam Palmo presented a lecture on the introduction to Tibetan astrology & its role on Tibetan medical practice and Dr. Jamyang Dolma spoke on Tibetan medical

Around 35 people who where mostly health professionals attended the talk by Dr. Jamyang Dolma on introduction to Tibetan medicine practice. 25-30 April, 2013 Bogota, Columbia Olga Lucia Sierra Santos, organiser took the team to Yamantaka Centre and discussed about the various programme scheduled in Bogota and the lecture topic with doctors from the Foundation Santa Fe (a research foundation of the elite University of Los Condes). Medical & Astrological Consultations by Dr. Jamyang Dolma and Mrs. Sonam Palmo was held at the Yamantaka center on 26 April. Mr. Tseten Dorjee dispensed herbal supplements and herbal products. In the afternoon, the doctor presented a lecture on the relationship between mind and body and mental health in Tibetan medicine at the Santa Fe Hospital. About 60 health professionals, doctors and students attended the lecture. On 27 April, Dr. Jamyang Dolma presented a lecture on Tibetan medical approach to mental health at the Vida Activa (branch of the Foundation Santa Fe) attended by 45 health 3
professionals. The director and doctors of Foundation Santa Fe expressed their keen interest in Tibetan system of health care and requested for future visits to their foundation.
The vistiing doctor presented a lecture on ageing in healthy way in Tibetan medicine at the Centre on 29 April. About 20 people attended the lecture.
In the afternoon, medical & astrological consultations was done at the Centre. In the evening, a lecture on introduction to Tibetan medicine was presented by the doctor at the Yamantaka Centre. There were about 17 people who attended the lecture mostly members of the Centre. The Centre also arranged a live telecast of the lecture for those members who could not come and were staying outside the main city. On 28 Arpil, at the Seminary of the Jesuits, Dr. Jamyang Dolma presented a lecture on therapeutic approach on Tibetan medicine attended by about 20 therapists. Mrs. Sonam Palmo spoke on the role of Tibetan astrology in Tibetan medicine at the Yamantaka Centre and about 15 people attended the lecture. Several universities and institutions were very impressed with the lectures on Tibetan medicine & Tibetan astrology, and showed keen interest to extend invitation for the next visit. On the whole, the tour to South America had been successful in generating awareness on the ancient cultural heritage of Tibetan medicine & Tibetan astrology. The team visited 7 Universities and Institutes, 6 centers and foundations. They provided health care consulation to 128 patients and 49 people had the opportunity for oral consulation in astrology. Around 900 people participated for the presentation given by the doctor and the astrologer. Without the kind help and support of the respective organizers in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santiago & Temuco in Chile and Bogota, Colombia, the visit would not have been possible. We would like to sincerely thank Mr. Tsewang Phuntsola, Liaison Officer, Latin America and all the organizers for arranging the visit to South America.
