Oliver Hughes

Artistic Director

Chairman Temple Bar Company

During my years on the road as a musician with Stockton’s Wing, I learned first-hand, the influence of The Furey Brothers, The Dubliners and The Dublin City Ramblers on the development and appreciation of Irish Traditional and Folk music. These were the trailblazers for our music throughout the world. We‘re delighted to introduce An Audience with Irish Folk Legends at this year’s Temple Bar TradFest. The Furey’s are still filling concert venues through Ireland and Europe. The Dubliners, alas, are no longer with us, but former members of the band now known as The Dublin Legends will be taking part. The Dublin City Ramblers and Bagatelle still enthral audiences wherever they play. A relatively new band, creating a name for themselves in Europe are The Kilkennys and we’re delighted that they are performing for us. An Audience with Irish Folk Legends is like a festival within a festival. The venues are intimate and I’m sure the experiences will be memorable.

On behalf of the Temple Bar Company and my fellow directors, Welcome to the Temple Bar TradFest Music Trail. In this our 9th year we’ve added a new exciting element to the Music Trail, An Audience with Legends of Irish Folk Music. As well as 5 days and nights of live music sessions in some of the finest pubs in Dublin, visitors to the Temple Bar TradFest will have the opportunity to enjoy 5 of Ireland’s most successful and internationally renowned folk groups. Set in the intimate surrounds of some of Dublin’s’ best pubs, we’re delighted to have legendary bands The Fureys, Dublin City Ramblers, The Kilkennys, Bagatelle and The Dublin Legends (Sean Cannon, Eamon Campbell, Gerry O Connor & Patsy Watchorn all formerly members of The Dubliners) perform as part of Temple Bar Tradfest 2014. The Temple Bar Company through its membership has raised in excess of 5 million Euros over the last number of years, all of which has been reinvested back into the area including funding the phenomenal growth of Temple Bar TradFest, now firmly one of Dublin’s most successful music festivals. We have many exciting plans for Temple Bar over the coming years and we look forward to welcoming you to Dublin’s Cultural Quarter. Is mise le meas
