WELCOME

4

Welcome to Dublin Culture Night 2011 Friday 23rd September From 5pm–11pm Dublin Culture Night 2011 – our biggest adventure yet! This year even more of Dublin city will be open to everyone, in the most creative and imaginative ways possible. Size isn’t everything, but with 156 venues and organisations taking part this is the biggest and most diverse ever Culture Night event in Ireland. 2011 will be remembered as a year of massive change in Ireland. Everyone has had a jolt. Culture and the arts survive because the people and communities who lead them can adapt with resilience, imagination and ambition joined together by creativity and vision. Just check out some of the new treasures that have popped-up on the Dublin scene since 2010! But more than that, Culture Night is owned by you, it’s all about you and it’s for you! So arm yourself with this guidebook and map, hit the streets and be surprised. And remember, everything that’s open on Culture Night will be there when you visit the next time, and the next time...so why not make a habit of it! PS: to help you keep in practice after Culture Night, remember to check out TBCT’s First Thursdays Dublin and the OPW’s brilliant new scheme for Free Wednesdays!

A selection of the Council of National Cultural Institutions (CNCI) will open their venues from 3pm on Culture Night! See individual listings for details.

Oíche Chultúir Bhaile Átha Cliath 2011 – an eachtra is mó againn go dtí seo! I mbliana beidh níos mó de chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath ná roimhe ar oscailt do chách, ar bhealaí níos cruthaitheach agus samhlaíoch ná riamh. Ní hí an mhéid is tábhachtaí, ach le 156 ionad agus eagras ag glacadh páirt, seo í an Oíche Chultúir is mó agus is mó éagsúlachta riamh in Éirinn. Beidh cuimhne ar an mbliain 2011 as an athrú ollmhór atá tagtha ar Éirinn. Baineadh geit as gach aon duine. Maireann an cultúr agus na healaíona toisc gur féidir leis na daoine agus na pobail atá á stiúradh leasuithe a dhéanamh le hathléimneacht, le samhlaíocht agus le huaillmhian nasctha le chéile ag cruthaitheacht agus fís. Caith súil ar roinnt de na seoda nua atá tagtha chun solais i mBaile Átha Cliath ó 2010 i leith! Ach chomh maith leis sin, is leatsa Oíche Chultúir – is fútsa í agus is duitse í! Mar sin, tabhair leat an t-eolaí agus léarscáil seo, gabh amach ar na sráideanna agus bíodh iontas ort. Agus ná déan dearmad – beidh gach rud atá ar oscailt ar Oíche Chultúir ann fós nuair a thugann tú cuairt an chéad uair eile, agus an chéad uair eile ina dhiaidh sin...déan nós de! PS: chun cuidiú leat cleachtadh a dhéanamh nuair atá Oíche Chultúir thart, ná déan dearmad súil a chaitheamh ar Chéad Déardaoin Baile Átha Cliath agus scéim iontach Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí don Chéadaoin Saor!
