Party in the Park

Teme Valley Times

It was smiles all round on June 26th as youngsters enjoyed the free activities laid on by West Mercia Police at ‘Party in The Park’, held on the Palmers playing fields in Tenbury Wells. The sun nearly shone during the first half of the afternoon but showers brought the day to a slightly early close. Despite this it was obvious that a good many people had had a lot of fun. The free activities included roundabout rides, bouncy castles (big ones plus small ones for the very young), electric quads, Moon Carrot’s Pirate puppet show, rock tower climbing and magician David Oakley’s show with his box of tricks and Dennis the dog. Face painting with glitters had a long queue for most of the afternoon, there were bungee trampolines, soft gladiator play and, new this year, ‘Jump or Duck’ challenge. Trevor Hill gave a display with his birds and you could visit his ‘Animal Encounters’ trailer with meercats, tortoises, lizards and more to peer at! St Mary’s Church had a stand where children (and adults!) could learn about Bible stories, including ‘The Great Escape’ and ‘The Marvellous Picnic’. Tenbury’s RBL had a ‘cuddly toy’ tombola, the Country Market had lots of cakes and preserves to tempt buyers, the candy floss stall did a good trade, and Tenbury café ‘Spotty Dog’ was serving refreshments. Many local groups were there raising funds including Bayton School PTA (teddy bear raffle), Burford Parent and Toddler Group (cake stall including mini cup cakes for 10p) and Café 27 (book sale). You could take a look inside a Safety Partnership Gatso Van and see the technology that takes your picture, and the ice cream van, bacon and burger grill, freshly-cooked pakoras, onion bhajis and samosas offered a choice of cuisine to keep the munchies at bay if you did work up an appetite!
