Integration of FASTag with GST to Push GDP Growth by 2% FASTag is not a new word in an Indian’s dictionary nowadays. The initiative of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) which created the uproar back in 2017 is in its prime now. Following the successful implementation of the project, the Government of India has made it mandatory to include a FASTag sticker on every purchased vehicle following December 2017. This initiative has contributed to the upliftment of a number of aspects of highway operations and toll tax collection. Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (IT and Highway Operations) of NHAI is the man behind the raging success of the implementation of the ETC project. He has claimed that he wishes to ensure that at least one of the lanes in each of the toll plazas across India has a lane dedicated to ETC. He is currently working on the same and is expected to administer these changes soon. The integration of Electronic Toll Collection has made the process of toll tax collection a lot streamlined and transparent. It has also contributed to decreasing the levels of traffic congestion at the toll booths. The successful implementation of ETC has ensured to aid the commuters and promote the drive of Digital India further. Mr Srivastava is also working on yet another initiative of e-tolling whose first phase of pilot run is expected to be operational in the coming few weeks itself. The first phase of it is going to be implemented on the Delhi-Mumbai highway. The final launch is successfully going to be implemented after NHAI and MoRTH decide upon the toll rates. With the successful integration of ETC, the Government of India has decided to integrate GST into FASTag for an enhanced economic boost for the country. According to the issued statements, it has been claimed that the combination of FASTag with GST is expected to bring down and reduce the logistic charges which in turn will contribute to the growth of the overall GDP of the country by 2%. FASTag integrated with GST is going to ensure the overall boost to the economic growth of the country. It will also ensure the correct tax collection and promote transparency in the process of tax payments. Every single transaction is going to be monitored and stored in soft copies to ensure that there is no space left for scammers or any kind of other fraudulent practices lingering the process of e-tolling. FASTag is gradually picking up momentum and most citizens are availing the services of it for a smoother and better operation through the toll booths. There has been little to no mention of the upcoming upgrades or changes in this prospect but the possibilities seem endless. Mr Srivastava is working on ensuring not just smooth commute for the highway users but an improved approach to ensuring better workflow and transparency in the sector of highway operations with this approach. The overall implementation of Electronic Toll

Collection, FASTag along with GST is going to be an impactful change in the overall GDP of the country.
