TEDxKandy is not organized by TED Conferences, but is operated under a license from TED. TED TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading
thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most
passionate about. "TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. The event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

TED began in 1984 as a conference devoted to the converging fields of Technology, Entertainment and Design (hence its name). Over the years, the scope has broadened and the level of ambition has constantly risen. TED now seeks to bring together the world's leading thinkers and doers, no matter what field of endeavor they are working in. All knowledge is connected and TED has become the place where one can discover leading edge thinking in numerous fields, and how this relates to one’s own life and work. For many attendees, the result is: delicious, unexpected connections; extraordinary insights, powerful inspiration

TEDx TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." It supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. The program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. TEDx presentations will last just 18 minutes: long enough to say something of significance, but short enough to hold everyone's attention and to be easily watched over the Internet. This format has proven a carefully prepared talk of this length can have astonishing impact. See www.TED.com for examples. An additional benefit of the presentations at TEDx is that they will be made available online and possibly on TED.com, where some presentations have been attracting audiences in the hundreds of thousands or even millions. All presentations will be recorded at TV production quality. This forum may reach a vast audience on the web. TED will select some TEDx talks to be released online and most are viewed by at least 100,000 people, and some by several million. Indeed, in aggregate, TED Talks have been viewed more than 100 million times worldwide. This exposure has transformed the careers of many TED presenters and performers, either by introducing them to larger audiences or recasting them in a new and thoughtful light.


TEDxKandy 2016 “Fostering Innovation” – A glimpse of the inaugural TEDx Kandy TEDx Kandy was birthed by a humble vision. We wanted to provide Kandy with a ground breaking platform which could realize Kandy’s own untapped potential, while being able to bring global ideas home. We wanted to bridge the gap between opportunities and innovative ideas in greater Sri Lanka. The first ever TEDx Kandy was held in June of 2016 under the theme “Fostering Innovation”. Innovation, or the generation of new ideas, is a knowledge mechanisms that enhances the productivity and efficiency of human action. It has been the driving force of human civilization. In this context, we believed that there were many such ideas which were yet to be explored in Sri Lanka, and if brought forward could help transform Sri Lanka’s growth trajectory. The notable lineup of speakers represented a wide array of fields, ranging from technology and women’s empowerment to evolutionary biology. The speakers were     

The event which was a phenomenal success was fully sold out within a short time span of the tickets going on sale. The Main Partner for the event was Millennium Information Technologies while News 1 st and Yes FM provided media coverage.


TEDxKandy 2018 – “Ideate. Revolutionize” With our humble vision firmly rooted, the TEDx Kandy organizing team brings together the next edition of TEDx Kandy under the theme “Ideate. Revolutionize”. Ideation, the driving force of positive change. Trail blazers with new ideas, from the inventors of wheel to the personal computer, have revolutionized the way people live. Ideas have been the root of rapid human evolution. Today, we are looking at an age where artificial intelligence and machine learning would be the norm of tomorrow. In such an era, would human centered ideas continue to thrive and make impactful changes to the way we live? Or, would humans retreat to a state of nonchalance, subdued by the power of man-made intelligent beings? Human intellect isn’t meant to be restrained. Amidst any chaos it would be the human spirit that can transcend time and space. Ideation has not only driven industry and globalization. The emergence of new ideas has transformed all fields of human thought, be it science, arts, politics, economics, technology or the humanities. The sociopolitico-cultural revolutions that have forever changed the nature of humankind have been the result of individuals, or groups, daring to think differently and act upon them. Audacious thought leaders have come up with groundbreaking new ideas to overcome the most pressing issues of our time such as poverty, inequality, corruption and reconciliation. Yet, this journey of ideation has only begun. There are an infinite number of problems to address and an infinite number of novel ways to transform humanity, for the better. Irrespective of geography human ideas, centered on the core values of humanity, will continue to thrive. Human ideas will continue to revolutionize humanity and our existence on this planet Earth. In this context, there are many such ideas that are yet to be explored in Sri Lanka. In the true spirit of TED, TEDxKandy 2018 under the theme, “Ideate.Revolutionize” will provide a platform for speakers from a diverse range of backgrounds to voice their ideas and share their experiences of making a transformative change in their community on a public forum. Thus, we believe that this event will help create space for, and shape, the public discourse on timely issues and ground-breaking ideas; both for Sri Lanka and the globe. TED and TEDx speakers volunteer their time and energy and have always committed to creating an experience that's tremendously fulfilling and beneficial on all sides, and as a TEDx event, TEDxKandy will aspire to do the same.

Partner with TEDxKandy How you and your company can benefit while helping:

1. By agreeing to act as a partner or co-partner to the event. I. PLATINUM PARTNER | LKR 300,000 

Announcements as “Platinum Partner” on each speaker video which would be uploaded on the TED global You Tube Channel. Perpetual branding opportunity dependent on TED.

Partner can take ownership of the entire venue location (except for the main stage and speaking areas) to display Partner merchandise, stalls, banners, displays, hoardings etc. This material would need to be provided and set up by the partner at the venue.

Partner will be given the exclusivity of being the “Platinum Partner” for the event in media write-ups.

Partner would get publicity via web and social media where available.

Partner logo on any official event banners.

Partner logo on tickets & posters.

5 VIP invitations to the event.

“Platinum Partner” status on any radio or TV adverts if secured.

Projection screens present at the event will display advertisements of partners during the breaks and other information of the Platinum partners.

Any other merchandise, if any, such as souvenirs will also carry Platinum Partner logos (where applicable).


Partner with TEDxKandy II. GOLD PARTNER | LKR 200,000 

Announcements as “Gold Partner” on each speaker video which would be uploaded on the TED global You Tube Channel. Perpetual branding opportunity dependent on TED.

Partner can take ownership of entrance area of the venue location to display Partner merchandise, stalls, banners, displays, hoardings etc. This material would need to be provided and set up by the partner at the venue.

Partner will be mentioned in media write-ups as “Gold Partner”.
