“THE FEMALE MOLDS ARE CONCLUDED”
MAY This month was extremely important for the project. We received the second male
mold from EUROSTAND! So throughout the last month we have been working hard at TRIMARINE on both the second male and our first
female mold. It took about 6 weeks to completely finish the first mold mainly because it was our first time, so there were some mistakes !1
that had to be fixed which delayed the whole process. However, for the second mold we managed to conclude it in about 2 weeks. This demonstrates the importance of experience in these types of projects.
application of the final hull pre-impregnated fibers.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS During this last month we also concluded other important components such as the bulkheads, stringers and the deck. As mentioned
before, the bulkheads and stringers are structural pieces that will be glued inside the hull to ensure that it maintains its shape, homogeneity and rigidity throughout the competition. We have also finished the supports of the motor and the batteries! Check out the following photos!
On the first week, we began working on the male mold. As said in previous months, the process starts by sanding and waterproofing the mold. We then re-sand the surface, apply the first layer of primer, re-sand it once more and then apply bitumen. Afterwards we apply another layer of primer followed by a layer of top coat. Finally, we apply release agents and gelcoat so that we can begin the laminating process to obtain the female mold.

On the second week we started laminating the female mold. After the application of the gelcoat a layer of glass fiber is laminated with epoxy resin. Afterwards, we impregnate the previously cut fibers and then alternate between layers of carbon and glass fiber. After each day laminating, a vacuum system is used to remove excess resin and compress all the layers. In total we applied 9 layers of fiber. At the end of the lamination process, the mold is cured at room temperature and then post cured at higher temperatures to prepare the mold for the !2
