General Conventions in the Manual About manual -

This manual facilitates the user to get the entire functional flow of the Laboratory

module present in Hospital Information System application. Reading this manual, user

can understand each and every feature in Laboratory module after its installation in the system.

Implementation people will help the users for Laboratory installation, still one can install this module very easily by referring the Lab installation guide, provided with the HIS installation kit.

This manual is written in very simple and stepwise manner, in which user can understand each point with an ease. Every screen is explained in detail by showing its

related screen shot. User can access the explained feature by simply following the steps written for that feature.

It is recommended to follow the notes or tips mentioned in manual to avoid the -

Getting Started

Use step by step to

1. Laboratory

All the examinations which are done by collecting the samples required for the aimed

test are performed under Laboratory department, for example - blood test, urine test etc.

The samples collected from the patients are submitted to the labs for further

proceedings and after performing the necessary investigation processes, result of the tests are entered here.

The proposed tests are defined with its related details under this department. The services like Housekeeping, Biomedical requests and stores related services can be also raised here.

All the samples collected through Ward, Emergency and Phlebotomy departments are sent to Laboratory for acknowledgement. The functions that could be performed under Laboratory are – 

Collecting the samples for the raised investigations



Acknowledging the samples collected for test



Making result entry of the done investigations



Generating MIS reports; here all the investigation related reports are generated.



Verifying the investigations for which Result Entry has been done



Redirecting the specimens



Indexing of specimens

On opening Laboratory window following six tabs appears under Menu Box –

On opening the Laboratory window 

A menu bar is seen with following menus – File, Services, Stores, Configuration, Reports, Settings, Windows and Help.

To enter the details and take group printing of all the reports for a selected patient -

1. In the Req No. text box, enter the requisition number or Click the search icon next to the Req No text box. The Search Requisition screen is displayed.

2. Specify the search parameters and then Click Search button. The list of patients is displayed along with the related details. Select the required record and then Click Select button.

3. The list of all the tests for the selected patient is displayed in the Group Printing screen as shown in fig 32.

4. Click the Select Doctors button, a list of doctors is displayed in the screen as shown in below figure.

5. Select the corresponding checkbox, to specify the doctor who verifies the printing details of the reports.

6. Click OK, to continue.

7. Select the checkbox Select All, to select all the records or Select the corresponding checkbox, to select the tests to be done.

The buttons shown as

, helps to move up and down between the tests displayed in

the grid for a selected patient if the tests are going out of the display frame in the Group Printing screen. 

In Preview window, click the Back button to move to the previous screen.



Click here to see the use of the tools displayed on the Preview window.



The report can be printed, exported/imported and refreshed.



Click the Clear button, to clear the details.



Click the Close button, to close the window.

The list of all the reports for the selected patient is displayed in the same screen.

Dispatch Reports

Dispatch Reports feature displays the details of the reports that are ready to send out to the patient. The list of patients whose reports are verified and ready for dispatches are shown under this screen.

To open the Dispatch Reports screen click on the path – File

>> Dispatch Reports >> Inpatient

To dispatch the reports -

1. In the IP No. text box, enter the Inpatient number or Click the search icon next to the IP No. text box. The Search Inpatient screen is displayed. Or through Bed search

2. Specify the search parameters and Click the Search button or Click the Search button. The lists of records whose reports are ready to get dispatched are displayed.

3. Select the record by double-clicking on the record whose reports are to be dispatched. The moment a record is selected, it is displayed in the Dispatch Reports screenError! Reference source not found..

4. The screen displays the details such as the IP No., Bed number, name, age and gender of the patient. It displays the selected record in the middle of the screen.

5. Under Dispatch column, select the corresponding checkbox in the record’s rows for which reports are to be dispatched.

6. Click the Dispatch button, to dispatch the reports.

7. In the Transaction Validation window, enter the password and then Click OK, to continue.

8. A message “Record(s) Saved Successfully” is displayed. 9. Click OK, to continue.

10. Once the record is dispatched, it does not appear in the Search Inpatient screen.

11. When the reports are dispatched, it implies that the reports have been handed over to the patient.

12. Click the Close button, to close the window. NOTE

You can select all the records displayed in the grid by selecting the Select All checkbox.

Out Patient

The Out Patient tab under Laboratory displays the details of the out patients and the investigations / tests, they undergo. The investigations are raised from the Out Patient Billing, under Front Office module. In case of the investigations against out patients, the test is first billed and then it is performed. All the features shown under Outpatient tab are same as in Inpatient and they are –

The Worklist flow for Outpatient goes as –

1. Completing the Billing for the raised investigations for Outpatients. 2. Specimen collection for the test billed requisition.

3. Specimen Acknowledgement of test billed requisitions.

4. Result Entry for the sample acknowledged investigation.

5. Record verification of the investigation by authorized person. 6. Dispatching reports for the verified investigations. To open the screen click on the path –

To enter the details –

1. Specify the search parameters and then Click OK button or directly Click OK button, the list of outpatient records is displayed as shown in fig 36Error!

2. Click on the Legend button, to view the list of legends on the right side of the screen.

3. The details of the patients are displayed in the middle of the screen and the requisition details are displayed in different legend types indicating that the requisitions are in various stages, before the dispatch of the reports. The list starts with the Test Billed state.

Dispatch Reports

Dispatch Reports feature under Outpatient displays the details of the reports that are ready to be dispatched to the patient. The section displays the list of patients whose reports are verified and ready for dispatch.

In Dispatch Reports screen for Outpatients, reports can be dispatched for Emergency patients just by checking the Emergency check box in the Dispatch reports screen.

Once Emergency check box is selected patients can be searched through EMR. No. search shown instead of Bill No. search as shown in figure 44.1.
