The Andorra la Vella Season a passion for music and dance The Andorra la Vella Music and Dance Season, program-med by the Council and sponsored by BIBM, is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year with one of the most eagerly awaited series of concerts and performances in the Principality. The Season was initially established to bring the best stars, groups and artists on the international classical music and dance scene to the country. Under the artistic direction of Josep Maria Escribano, who is also the director of the Andorra la Vella Institute of Music, the Season has become consolidated as a top-level cultural proposal because of the great figures from classical music and dance who have filled the programme. Indeed, Escribano, stresses that the Season has always been programmed in order to introduce, for the first time and exclusively, internationally renowned figures and groups and that the Season features every tendency and every style of music and dance . As far as dance is concerned, the Season will see performances by the best companies in all genres of contemporary, classical and romantic dance. The XV Season began on 23 October on the stage of the Congress Centre with Fuenteovejuna, the last work of the trilogy that Antonio Gades devoted to dance with dramatic and theatrical content. On 18 December, Los Vivancos presented 7 hermanos, a highly original performance that features dance, music and acrobatics from one of the revelations of recent years in Spain. The Season continues in 2009 with four further proposals: Classical Dance Gala, 22 January. Óscar Torrado and Laura Hormigón, two of the great stars of the National Ballet of Cuba, play the lead in a night of dance.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, 7 February. The Royal Philharmonic from London, one of the most acclaimed orchestras on the current scene, with Pinchas Zukerman as conductor and first violin, will perform a Mozart violin concerto, Schumann s cello concerto, and Beethoven s seventh symphony. Tango Metrópolis, 12 March. The Argentinean group Metrópolis will give a performance of tango, a dance with both one of the greatest number of followers worldwide, and exciting and rhythmic music: the quintet will perform pieces by Astor Piazzola live. Aterballetto, 22 April. The prestigious Italian dance company will offer a repertoire of neoclassical ballet created by the group s artistic director, Mauro Bigonzetti, one of Europe s most acclaimed choreographers. SUCCESS The Council of Andorra la Vella, with the sponsorship of BIBM, has always been firmly committed to the event: the aim is for everyone to have the chance to go and see the performances . People want the authorities to provide them with culture and the authorities have the duty to give them it. Tickets for the Season are therefore affordable to all pockets . SPONSORSHIP The Season would not have achieved its current success were not for the firm backing of the banking entity BIBM, which sponsors the event and provides the resources necessary to schedule the top-level performances that characterise each season. CONGRESS CENTRE The new facilities of the Congress Centre have prompted a radical change in the Season, as the number of seats has increased from 400 to 914 and the stage is now larger and equipped with far more technology. Escribano points out that we now have a stage that is a lot more versatile. We can therefore bring large orchestras and large groups and take advantage of everything that the equipment available enables us to do .
