10/1/13 12:54 PM

It is with a spirit of humility and gratefulness that we welcome you to the First Annual Restore One Stand for One Gala. We are so excited about what God is doing through this outreach, and we are extremely excited that you have chosen to embark on this incredible journey with us. As youth pastors, we learned early in our years of ministry that there were dark facets of our society that desperately needed attention. It was during this time that we both accepted and submitted to God’s call to be warriors for people who were being enslaved every day. And from that, just over one year ago, Restore One was formed. Restore One exists to combat what could be considered, quite literally, a silent murderer. It isn’t a front-page headline story, and it doesn’t top nightly news reports. It is not discussed at dinner tables or in many church services. It doesn’t affect most people’s paychecks or everyday goings-on. No one really sends texts about it. In fact, not many people talk about it at all. Those who know about it probably think it is not a big deal, if it even exists at all. But human trafficking exists. It is very real. It is an organized underworld of 21stcentury slavery that is thriving because an unaware society chooses daily to turn a blind eye, accept ignorance towards this reality, and maintain the lie that nothing can be done. We know that something can be done. We know that each person and each action can create change. We hope that you will be one of those changers. We thank you so much for your presence at our gala. We invite you to learn more about the Restore One ministry and the people who have chosen to support our outreach efforts. We invite you to be a part of the vision. Most importantly, we invite you to stand for every life that is being affected and lost to slavery. We believe that each person, and each step, furthers the cause to save every life. Because every life matters. —Restore One

Kristi Overton-Johnson

Greenville, NC native Kristi Overton-Johnson is a world champion skier, author and faith-based motivational speaker. She has garnered international acclaim for her athletic prowess, but she is highly recognized for her encouraging messages of hope, healing, grace and freedom. Kristi began water skiing at the age of five and began her professional athletic career before the age of thirteen. Switching her focus to slalom skiing, she ultimately accumulated over 80 professional wins and more number one rankings than any other female skier in history. Her career would allow her to achieve numerous championships around the world as well as a place in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. A congenital hip deformity—and over fifteen major surgeries—caused her to quit competing professionally in 2009. But that did not stop her from impacting the world of skiing. In 2003, she founded In His Wakes, a non-profit ministry that uses water sports and outreach programs as tools to counsel and mentor young athletes and coaches. Kristi also founded Kristi Overton-Johnson Ministries and Champions Heart Life Center in 2009. She uses these non-profit organizations to inspire people to live renewed, restored and impacting lives. “More than anything,” Kristi explains, “I want my ministries to be a conduit of God’s grace and a reflection of His love and mercy so that broken hearts can be healed and freedom can be obtained by those who have been held captive by circumstances, past choices, guilt and shame.” It is with this passion in mind that we welcome Kristi Overton-Johnson as the Master of Ceremony for the evening.

Dr. Dan Allender

Dr. Dan B. Allender has pioneered a unique and innovative approach to trauma and abuse therapy over the past 25 years. Central to Dr. Allender’s approach are the categories of Faith, Hope and Love and their converse betrayal, ambivalence, and powerlessness. Through engaging these categories and in learning to identify them in one’s personal story, healing and transformation can occur by bridging the story of the gospel and the stories of trauma and abuse that mark so many. Having received his Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary, Dr. Allender went on to earn his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University. He taught in the Biblical Counseling Department of Grace Theological Seminary for seven years (1983–1989). From 1989–1997, Dr. Allender worked as a professor in the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling program at Colorado Christian University, Denver, Colorado. In 1997, he founded The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in order to train therapists and pastors to more effectively serve in the context of the 21st century. He served as President of The Seattle School from 2002–2009. Dr. Allender continues to serve as Professor of Counseling Psychology at The Seattle School. He travels and speaks extensively to present his unique perspective on sexual abuse recovery, love & forgiveness, worship, and other related topics. Dr. Allender is the author of The Wounded Heart and The Healing Path and has co-authored several books with Dr. Tremper Longman (Intimate Allies, The Cry of the Soul, Bold Love and Bold Purpose). About Restore One _

Restore One is a ministry that seeks to open shelters that offer faith-based residential recovery programs, free of cost, to American boys who are survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). Restore One was founded June 2012, by a husband and wife team, Chris and Anna Smith. Chris and Anna have a passion to see human trafficking survivors experience the healing freedom found in Jesus Christ and for community members to mobilize against the problem of human trafficking. Restore One treats every survivor’s experience distinctively; this is accomplished by using holistic approaches and proven clinical methods that nurture individual healing and restoration processes. Restore One also counteracts human trafficking and human exploitation through community awareness, education, outreach and partnerships. Our goal is to see DMST survivors live in complete freedom, and to generate communities that are intolerable to the problem of human trafficking and human exploitation. MISSION: The mission of Restore One is to combat human trafficking and human

exploitation by means of public awareness, practical prevention, restorative care and domestic and international partnerships.

VISION: Ending human trafficking and the exploitation of men, women and children. FOUNDING VERSE: Matthew 18:12-14 “"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”

A Note _

The motivation behind Restore One is kindled by Chris and Anna’s passion for Christ’s freedom and redemption. Restore One carries out its anti-human trafficking mission because Chris and Anna believe every life matters. Just as the true emancipating power of Jesus restored their lives, so they feel it is their duty to extend the liberty in Christ’s love to those who are enslaved and suffering. The outreach efforts of Restore One center around three focuses: the deterrence, deliverance and rehabilitation of individuals affected by human trafficking. To address these three areas, three distinct ministries were created from the Restore One umbrella: Project So Loved, Men for Freedom and The Anchor House. The collective missions of these ministries will establish a 360-degree approach to purging our communities, cities and nations from the injustice of modern-day slavery. Furthermore, they will solidify a foundation of emotional, mental and spiritual freedom for our brothers and sisters who have yet to truly experience the joy of liberty through Christ.

Project So Loved _

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 At Restore One we believe each life is precious and valuable. Every day it is estimated that 300,000 American youth are sexually exploited in some shape or fashion. This statistic is extremely alarming. A large part of our mission at Restore One is to combat human trafficking and human exploitation through practical but intentional awareness programs and proactive education. Project So Loved seeks to do just that. Our main strategy is to use gender-specific small group interventions to educate youth (ages 12–18) on the realities of sexual exploitation and DMST. By educating America’s youth of the realities of human trafficking, our hope and prayer is that we may prevent the trafficking and exploitation of youth in North Carolina and abroad. VISION: The vision of Project So Loved is to create a community that is intolerable to the problem of human trafficking. Our hope is that, through education and awareness, Project So Loved will cultivate and nurture a society that supports the anti-trafficking movement. MISSION: We will do this by educating community groups, churches, schools,

colleges and professionals on the culture, statistics, history and real-world approaches used to rid communities of human trafficking.

Men for Freedom _

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 (ESV) Restore One recognizes the need for men of God to step up and be frontrunners for restoring and advancing the Kingdom of God in our communities. It is with this need in mind that Men for Freedom was created. With each passing generation, the role of men as fathers dwindles in our society and communities. Men for Freedom hopes to tackle this issue by organizing men across the globe to become earthly fathers for kids who have no father, no hope, no understanding of unconditional love. Within the scope of Restore One, this branch of our vision will rally men who willingly accept the role of spiritual provider for victims of human trafficking, promoting and providing them with an environment of integrity, confidence, optimism and trust. VISION: The vision of Men for Freedom is to mobilize men to end human trafficking and the exploitation of men, women, and children. MISSION: Our mission is to empower men to combat human trafficking and abuse

through practical prevention, public awareness, and building accountability and partnerships among men.

The Anchor House _

An anchor is a common ancient metaphor used to signify a place of stability and security. In the midst of unpredictable tides, an anchor is used to hold a boat firmly in place and to protect it from drifting off into dangerous waters. Similar to a boat anchor, the Anchor House will provide a place of stability and protection for boys who have been sexually trafficked and/or exploited. The Anchor House is designed to meet the psychological, physical and sociological needs of sex trafficked and sexually exploited boys. At the Anchor House, every boy will be treated as an unique individual by using holistic approaches and proven clinical methods that nurture healing and restoration. Currently there are no shelters within the United Sates designated to serve sexually exploited or sex trafficked male victims. Boys have been largely overlooked as victims of the sex trade. Our culture has identified males as the perpetrator but has failed to address them as victims. The goal of the Anchor House program is to provide a safe haven for these individuals and to help these boys identify themselves as victorious overcomers, not mere survivors. It is our desire for each boy to experience healing, regain complete freedom and reintegrate into society. The Anchor House will be licensed under the State of North Carolina as a Residential Care Facility. The Anchor House’s program will be governed by the Restore One Board, advised by Restore One Shelter Advisory Committee, overseen by Restore One Executive Staff and carried out by trained and qualified Anchor House staff. The unified goal of the staff is to provide excellence in care and support for Anchor House residents. Each team is willing to go above and beyond to ensure the Anchor House is an effective and credible program. VISION: To provide care and assistance to young men victimized by domestic minor sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation to overcome difficulties and live free, fruitful and fulfilled lives. MISSION: The Anchor House, a program of Restore One, is committed to providing residential care that is trauma sensitive, holistic and Christ-centered specifically to domestic minor sex trafficked and sexual exploited young men ages 12–17.

Freedom Fighter Award

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a Freedom Fighter as a person who takes part in a resistance movement against a cruel and/or repressive political or social establishment. First coined in 1942, it is a term that was used to describe the actions of passionate abolitionists. Tonight, Restore One deems each of these Freedom Fighter Award recipients as a distinct force within the resistance army fighting against the oppression of modern-day slavery. Congratulations to our award recipients! JUNIOR FREEDOM FIGHTER:

Faith May

Faith is the ten-year-old daughter of Wayne and Paula May. In her spare time she enjoys musical theater and school. Restore One recognizes Faith as the 2013 Junior Freedom Fighter Award Recipient for her heartfelt and brilliant fundraising project, “Sale Popcorn, Not People.” Her mission is to raise awareness of human trafficking and promote a communal response regarding the issue. Restore One honors Faith for her decision to be an example to others at a young age. FREEDOM FIGHTER:

Lindsey Roberson

Assistant District Attorney New Hanover County ( January 2012–Present) This past year, Lindsey worked hand in hand with Senator Thom Goolsby to prepare SB 683, a Safe Harbor bill to increase penalties for human traffickers and protect victims in North Carolina. Due to Lindsey’s tireless efforts, Safe Harbor passed unanimously by the North Carolina Legislature on July 25, 2013 and was signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory on July 29, 2013. Restore One recognizes Lindsey as the 2013 Freedom Fighter Award Recipient for her groundbreaking efforts that made Safe Harbor a law in the state of North Carolina.

Men for Freedom Award

Restore One deems the Men For Freedom Award recipient as a man who has an undying passion for people and ministry. Through prayerful diligence and dedication, this individual has shown himself to be a man who embodies the Men for Freedom mission to emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically free enslaved victims of bondage and captivity. MEN FOR FREEDOM:

Tony Morace

Tony Morace is a retired veteran of The Marine Corps. He has achieved many things in his life, but he says his greatest achievements can be found in the smiles of those he serves. He has been in active ministry with his wife, Joanne, for over 25 years locally and abroad. Seeing and ministering to those who suffer has made a drastic change in his outlook on life and his core reason for living. Restore One recognizes Tony as the 2013 Men For Freedom Award Recipient for his genuine and pioneering efforts in founding the Men For Freedom team. 24 | Restore Øne Gala RestoreOne_GALA_programDesign_5.5x8.5_FINAL.indd 24

It is with full hearts that we thank each of you for supporting the Restore One vision and us. We thank God daily for the prayers, financial provision, words of encouragement, and genuine love that we receive daily. Your support means the world to us, but we know that it means much more to individuals in our community that would not know redemption without divine intervention set by this vision. We know that it is not by accident that our lives have intertwined. Know that we do not take your passion, time, monetary support or prayers for granted. God has called us to do a powerful work in eastern North Carolina, and you are a pivotal part of seeing that mission come to pass. Thank you for standing with us in this endeavor.
