Each person walked away from the parade with their favorite float using a patriotic theme. The winning theme float this year was the GFWC Sebastian River Junior Women’s Club float recognizing the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg

Address featured a person dressed and posed as President Abraham Lincoln immortalized at the Lincoln Memorial. But the most remarkable display that brought the crowd and the parade to a standstill this year was two parachutists using propulsion devices to carry in two American flags over the Indian River Lagoon. Director Ang Lee creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. Michael Winslow brings the laughs to a sold out crowd in Vero Beach

Even though you may live in Vero Beach, odds are you that may have never set foot in a fantastic venue located downtown called Filthy McNasty’s Pubbery. It is actually quite popular as a live music venue, but it was comedy that drew an eclectic crowd from a couple married 62 years to young couples on first dates.

Then Michael Winslow came on stage.

The place came alive with cheers, laughter and applause on Saturday night when it hosted Michael Winslow, known from the “Police Academy” movie franchise as the man of a thousand voices. More like 10,000 voices with the funny sounds that emanate from his throat.

From the moment he took the mic, he took us on a ride that started with his first radio as he ran the gambit of the radio dial to other side splitting sounds he can make. Let me tell you he could really have a blast annoying airline stewardesses and will unleash his talents in the direction of those who frustrate him. You would seriously never want to be on his bad side considering the noises he can unleash.

The host for the evening and opening act was Duncan Jay who revved up the crowd early on with his his southern charm, mixed with sarcastic quick wit. He hit all the right notes and brought the energy up every time he hit the stage before each act. The man knows how to host a comedy show without a doubt. Craig Chamberlin hit the stage for a short routine but it was Todd Bogue, a former Vero Beach resident, who really rocked the house with his magic tricks, hysterical bits and rip roaring jokes prior to the star of the evening taking the stage.

Winslow’s live show is a mesmerising blend of sounds, special effects and unbelievable noises, all made that more special when you realize his act has no fancy tricks, this is simply a man with an incredible vocal talent and a microphone.

His show was amazing from a specially re-dubbed scene from Star War, Snoop Lion and Mary Poppins remix to a story about an unusual restaurant, you can visualize dinner being made from the sounds: all the way from calling the chicken over to its sizzle in the frying pan. If you have never seen Michael Winslow find one of his live shows and go. Better yet, prevail on Filthy McNasty’s to have him return. Great venue, great staff and great entertainment!
