Telecentre-Europe goes legal  At our Summit in 2009, delegates confirmed that we should expand the scale and scope of our work by formalising into a legal entity. The Steering Committee have worked since then to identify the best legal form and location for such an entity. During the summer of 2010 Telecentre-Europe will become established as an AISBL – (an Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif), a Non-Profit International Association, based in Brussels, Belgium. We will soon launch a call for Founding members of the new Telecentre-Europe AISBL.   back to top

Hold the date! Telecentre-Europe Summit 13-14 Oct 2010 Enabling digital citizenship for economic recovery The third Telecentre-Europe Summit will bring together an invited audience of over 100 telecentre network leaders from across Europe and will represent a call to action: the digital agenda for economic recovery. The summit will take place in Budapest, Hungary during 13-14 October 2010.

During the event, participants will be able to explore exciting and challenging themes including: The role of telecentres in the digital agenda Employability and enterprise for economic recovery Public-private partnerships to develop telecentres and networks of telecentres 

Also This Month RegioStar Award goes to a Telecentre-Europe member The winners of the “RegioStars” 2010 were announced on 20 May in Brussels during the annual Regions for Economic Change conference. The winner in the category 3 ICT applications for e-inclusion became a non-profit association Window to the Future for the successful implementation of the European Social Fund project Computer literacy basics for a Lithuanian e-citizen, Lithuania. Linking telecentres with the new European Digital Agenda Telecentre-Europe emphasized the significance of telecentres within the new European Digital Agenda, during the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2010, held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 25-27 May.

Telecentre-Europe inspires partners the Philippines - CICT, Commission on Information and Communications Technology mounts Get Online Philippines campaign, inspired by the Telecentre-Europe's successful initiative Get Online Day. Please find more details HERE. 

European Skills for Employability Awards Your initiative can be recognized as one of the best skills for employability projects across Europe and showcased to the rest of the EU as an example of best practice. Additionally, by reaching this stage you could go onto win one of 3 individual category awards that will be presented at the European Employment Forum in Brussels on 24-25 November 2010. Call for proposals on social experimentation    The European Commission has published under PROGRESS, the EU’s employment and social solidarity programme, a Call for Proposals that seeks to promote social experimentation as a source of innovation in the social policies falling within the open method of coordination applied to social protection and social inclusion (the social OMC) in the European Union. Telecentre-Europe organized a booth in the eInclusion pavilion, where we were able to inform, interact and connect with a variety of organizations. Ongoing programmes and online tools like the IT barometer were highlighted and demonstrated throughout the pavilion workshops.

Gabi Barna, Co-chair of Telecentre-Europe, informed the audience in one of the eInclusion panel sessions about Telecentre-Europe’s aims, activities and rationale of existence, stressing that the European eInclusion players should exploit this network to deliver services and solutions to socially and digitally excluded people. » More back to top

Steering Committee progress  Telecentre-Europe Steering Committee members met in Amsterdam on 28-29 May to discuss and agree on next steps and further development of the network considering the European context of eInclusion.

Telecentre-Europe info session in Brussels  Telecentre-Europe organized an information exchange session in Brussels last week, where the Co-chairs Gabi Barna and Ian Clifford presented plans for the network to an audience of representatives of the following European Commission DG’s: Information Society and media Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Education and culture

The purpose of this meeting was to raise TelecentreEurope’s profile within the European Commission, by lobbying the contribution that telecentres are making to achieve the goals of the Digital Agenda, and by showing how a united network of telecentres across Europe can be a viable and effective partner in implementing eInclusion policies. » More back to top
