This arrangement of In the Stone was inspired by the original Earth, Wind and Fire recording. The opening phrases of the treble and bass voices need to sound like the powerful horn section of Earth, Wind and Fire (brassy, bright, and forward). At Letter A and B the individual voice sections need to sound soloistic when interpreting their individual phrases. The piece is extremely rhythmic and syncopated so make sure to listen to the original recording to really absorb the stylistic elements of the performance. Some of the passages were written with a Gospel-style approach and should be treated as such (Letter D through Letter E). Make sure to energize Letter I as the band drops out at that moment to allow the vocalists to step into the spotlight. This will be a terrific feature for your group and lots of solo opportunities.
