Welcome to Edition 10 of our Waters Edge magazine. Our office has been overshadowed and devastated by the sudden loss of Annamarie, who passed away so unexpectedly. However the enormous show of sympathy, affection and support from all our friends, clients, business partners and the local community in general, has been astounding and has given some comfort to both her family and us during our darker moments. We have included a tribute to Annamarie in this edition; she will always remain a warm memory in our hearts. We are so pleased to welcome Elise, Stephanie and Chris to Tailor Made, who all joined us earlier this year, as well as Julia who provides sales support at new development Balcombe Breeze. Our dedicated Land and New Homes division continues to develop and benefits from the excellent sales support of the residential sales team. We are now delighted to offer drone photography and the option of videos, each of which offer a different perspective on property to highlight key features. Tailor Made prides itself on being a relationship-based business and part of the community. Our office location, next to Rick Stein’s, is a wonderful spot for gaining drop in visitors. Adrian has more than 30 years’ experience under his belt on property matters from liaising with developers to advising on commercial and residential matters. He specialises in the top end properties at Tailor Made and knows many of the waterside homes well. He is a hard working individual, passionate about Dorset and in particular Sandbanks.

Nicola is Adrian’s wife and supports Adrian in the day to day management and development of the business as well as keeping on top of the book-keeping and HR. Nicola is keen to ensure that Tailor Made continues to offer a personalised, first class service to their clients. When not working at the office, Nicola is kept busy looking after her two sons Felix who is 6 and Teddie who is 3, not to mention Rupert the Labrador!

Stephanie joined the Land and New Homes team in May 2017 following her recent move to Poole having spent the previous ten years involved in the management of super yachts. Her experience in first class customer service and her organisation skills are proving valuable assets in the day to day administration of the Land and New Homes section. Stephanie is fluent in three languages with conversational skills in two others, her hobbies include yoga, circuit training, running, reading and learning the piano.

Tailor made welcome our new artist in residence who heads up all photography and videography for online and marketing presentations. Tom graduated from Swansea University in 2007 with a 2:1 in media and communication studies. He has a real passion for landscape photography and in his spare time loves Rugby and American football.

After joining Tailor Made in April 2017, Julia has given weekend support on new developments in the area. She comes with a wealth of knowledge after building and selling property in South Buckinghamshire and after a childhood spent in the area has always owned property in Bournemouth/Poole. She’s very happy to be working with a great team after returning to work now her four children have flown the nest!

Chris recently joined the team at Tailor Made to help with weekend support. She has worked as a full-time PA for a number of years but upon her husband’s retirement decided to work part-time only. She worked as a weekend assistant for an independent estate agents in South Manchester before she and her husband decided to locate to the sunnier climate of Poole.

Pope Gregory XIII corrected the previous Julian calendar in 1582 by adding leap days according to a different rule ‘century years are no longer leap years unless divisible by 400.’ This brought the civil calendar year closer to the duration of the solar year which is around 365.24218 days long. inse the mussels thoroughly under plenty of running water and pull off the stringy beards, throwing away any broken shells and any that don’t close tightly when you tap them.

Take a large heavy-based pan with a snug-fitting lid and heat the olive oil. Add the onion and garlic and cook over low heat for about 5 minutes until soft. Pour in the wine and as it boils and the alcohol burns off, add the mussels and thyme. Cover and let the mussels steam for 3–4 minutes. They are ready when the shells have opened. Add the cream and cook for 1 minute more. Scatter with parsley and serve immediately with crusty bread, remembering to discard any mussels that haven’t opened.

Lemon verbena meringues with vanilla cream & strawberries P

reheat the oven to 100°C/200°F/gas mark ¼. Line a large baking sheet with baking parchment.To make the lemon verbena meringues, use an electric mixer to whisk the egg whites with the caster sugar to stiff peaks. Add the icing sugar and continue to whisk for 4–6 minutes, or until the meringue is smooth and shiny. Stir in the lemon verbena leaves. Using two large metal spoons, shape a quenelle of the mixture and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process to make seven more meringues, spacing them well apar t on the baking sheet. Place the meringues in the oven and cook for 2 hours. Remove the meringues from the oven and allow to cool slightly before gently easing them from the baking sheet with a palette knife. Transfer to a wire rack and set aside. Place 250g of the strawberries in a small food processor and blend until smooth, then pass through a sieve into a bowl to remove the seeds. Thinly slice the remaining strawberries. To make the filling, whip the cream, icing sugar and vanilla seeds together until soft peaks form. To serve, spoon some of the cream onto the base of half of the meringues, top with a few strawberry slices and sandwich together with the remaining meringues. Garnish with the lemon verbena sprigs and ser ve the strawberr y sauce alongside in a bowl.

“This herb is my favourite in my garden at home – it’s perfect for infusing custard for crème brûlée and making flavoured teas (if you like that sort of thing). Here the leaves add a gentle citrus note to the meringues, but if you can’t get hold of any, a little finely grated lemon zest will do the trick.”
