In April we opened our new office at 360 Coombe Lane in West Wimbledon which will primarily focus on Coombe Hill and Kingston Hill, including the prestigious Coombe Estate, as well as Coombeside and New Malden. Robert Holmes & Company has been successfully involved in the selling and letting of properties in the Coombe and Kingston Hill areas for over 40 years, as well as the Wimbledon area where it is recognised as the leading independent agent. Clients’ properties in the Coombe and Kingston Hill areas will also be marketed from our long established sales and lettings offices in Wimbledon Village and our recently opened office in Mayfair. Guy Leaning, who has extensive experience of the Coombe market since 1989, previously with Barnard Marcus and as a Partner of Lord’s Estate Agents, is managing the new office. He will be working with key staff from the Wimbledon office who have a particular affinity with Coombe. Because of our success in selling some of the finest new residential developments in the area over the last 30 years we have decided to set up a New Homes Division to provide a more specialised service both to developers and also to the increasing number of prospective purchasers who wish to acquire a brand new residence. John Nouri, who also happens to be a long standing Coombe Hill resident and has been with the Company for 25 years, will be in charge of this Division assisted by Nick Holmes. Our expansion coincides with what we perceive to be an increasing confidence in the property market after two challenging years following the increase in Stamp Duty in 2014 and the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Referendum in 2016 and the subsequent Brexit decision. Home Coming for a local agent Guy returned to the area and opened the new office at the beginning of April 2017. He first started working in the area in 1989 with Barnard Marcus before opening his own business as a Partner of Lords in 1994 which was later rebranded as Palladian in New Malden. His knowledge and experience as a trusted advisor within the area is well recognised and is already attracting significant interest. Liz started her property career in a small independent agency on the slopes of Kingston Hill where she built her local knowledge of the area. Coombe Warren was once a wild woodland where notorious 18th Century highwayman Jerry Abershawe was said to have lived, frequenting the ‘Bald Face Stag’ pub in between terrorising travellers on the London to Portsmouth road and surrounding areas.
Who lives there? Previous residents included Dame Nellie Melba; John Galsworthy, who based ‘The Forsyte Saga’ on his family house ‘Coombe Court’, and even General Eisenhower who used ‘Telegraph Cottage’ as a retreat from the Allied Headquarters in London during the Second World War.
