After the somewhat startling events of 2016 with the vote to leave Europe, which in turn led to a new Prime Minister, as well as the election of Donald Trump as the new President of the United States, it will be interesting to see how the property market reacts to these events, and also following the triggering of Article 50 for the UK’s withdrawal from Europe. We can report that the first quarter of the year has started very actively with more viewings arranged than pre the Referendum Vote and more valuations carried out, as more and more people realise that the fear of what may or may not happen to the UK Economy upon leaving Europe, is not going to be known for some years to come and therefore one cannot continue to put one’s life on hold. As a result the decision as to whether or not to move house is now at the forefront of those people’s minds who have been thinking about this for the last couple of years.

With the historically low interest rates and with the availability of finance still relatively easy to come by, as well as the Government’s desire to build more houses and provide Help To Buy, we would anticipate that the market will remain fairly robust during 2017. Although prices may not rise too much, I think it will be safe to say that, they are unlikely to fall in this highly regarded area.
