tockport is one of 51 UK towns to be shortlisted to present a business case for a share of the £675m Future High Streets Fund.There were more than 300 bids to the Future High Street Fund, which was open to all 326 councils with planning powers, so at least 249 councils (83%) were rejected. The successful areas will now each receive up to £150,000 of funding to work up detailed project proposals to regenerate and transform their town centres. Some of them will eventually receive multi-million pound funding to complete their projects.
Stockport shortlisted in Future High Streets Fund The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government said it will work closely with them, focusing on places that have “shovel ready” projects where there might be opportunities to accelerate these. The £675m Future High Streets fund was announced by the Government last December to enable councils to revitalise ailing high streets and make them “fit for the future”. Stockport Council now has until spring 2020 to submit their final business cases.
Council sets out plans for Merseyway redevelopment
lans to redevelop Merseyway Shopping Centre are moving forward following two public consultation events.
The consultation events focused on the first stage of the centre’s redevelopment – the refurbishment of Adlington Walk. Adlington Walk is a covered area of the centre that links off the main mall to Chestergate and the Old Town. Local residents were invited to offer their views on the proposals, which include reconfiguring and rebranding Adlington Walk to create ‘best in class’ community amenity and welfare facilities for the whole town centre to enjoy. Plans include a new ‘hotel lobby’ style entrance to the centre, a new stair and lift core, the re-fronting of existing retail to create a contemporary uniform appearance and public realm improvements that will improve the centre’s links to the historic core of Stockport and to the new transport interchange being constructed with TfGM (due for completion in 2022). Proposed facilities include a soft play space, new seating, buggy stores, high-grade toilets, parent and child facilities and a multi faith prayer room.
