Few individuals have felt the crushing blows that have besieged David Ring since birth. He was born to lose. On October 28, 1953, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, David was born with Cerebral Palsy. Orphaned at age 14, he was cast about from family to family with nowhere to call home. He endured constant physical pain, humiliating public ridicule and constant discouragement. Yet in the face of these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, David emerged not victimized . . . but victorious! Life was worse than hopeless to him until his relationship began with Jesus Christ who taught him self-respect and acceptance of his physical challenges. To most, physical challenges of this magnitude would prove to be a tombstone. For David Ring, this coming of age was and remains a milestone. You’ve never heard a speaker quite like David Ring. Although difficult to understand at first, you will soon find yourself captured by his quick wit and warm personality. Whether giving a motivational message at a sales convention, or inspiring church leaders, David always focuses on an individual’s need to conquer the personal challenges and adversities of life. As you hear David Ring, you will laugh…and cry. You will be amazed at his triumph over odds. You will be moved to consider your own life. As one who has not been stifled by his physical limitations, he clearly stakes his challenge to everyone. “I have Cerebral Palsy – What’s your problem?” As a nationally known speaker since 1973, David shares his story with over 100,000 people each year at churches, conventions, schools and corporate events. He has been featured on numerous occasions on several nationally televised programs. David’s book Just As I Am, (Moody Press, Chicago, IL) tells about his heartaches, victories, and addresses the central theme of his life: “Triumph Over Odds.” David and his wife, Karen, make their home in Nashville, Tennessee. They are the parents of four children, April, Ashley, Nathan and Amy Joy.

There is something very special about the relationship between a father and a daughter. This year, we will host our 7th annual Father Daughter Banquet. Each year, we pick a different theme, new menu, and something worth while to help families invest in these relationships. We invite ALL AGES to attend. We provide activities that can be adapted for any aged father/daughter duo. We also encourage those who may not be able to attend with their father, to invite someone else special in their life, that may serve as a father-like male role model. As always, if anyone needs a "date", we have deacons and other men ready to step in and escort an "adopted" daughter. It is truly a delight to watch each year as fathers and daughters get dressed up and go on a "date" together. Opportunities to provide a solid example of how men should treat women are priceless and rare in today's culture. We hope that you will choose to attend and walk away with a deepened relationship and maybe even some skills to keep your relationship strong for a lifetime. You can purchase tickets in the Grand Foyer now through February 10. Couples are $20 and $5 for each additional "daughter". Pictures will begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress in Sunday attire and fathers often present their daughters with a small flower or corsage.

M20 Opportunity Providing meals for Truth and Reality Ministries Homeless Shelter. We have been introduced to this ministry that feeds 80-100 people each day. We have already been engaged in serving meals on two days and have commitments for a few more. Our Church has been asked to provide food on the first Wednesday evening of each month, and we are looking for groups, classes or organizations to volunteer to help us in meeting these needs. If your class or group would like to help, please contact Dean Finch to sign up and minister in feeding these people who need a meal and a word from God. Facilitator: Dean Finch

Missions Opportunities for 2013 It is our desire to provide meaningful mission opportunities to everyone in our church family. Please pray about how God might use you in the days and months ahead to be involved in one of these opportunities. You may go, give to support others who want to go, and pray for these mission efforts. Brazil, June 1-8 This will be a trip to build a church in Forteleza, Brazil, which is on the eastern seaboard of Brazil. We need 8-10 people to go and work with another church in our area. The trip is open to older teenagers, college students and adults. Please contact Dean Finch to learn more about going, praying for and giving to this exciting international M20 experience. Ocoee Outreach Project, July 6-12 This mission project is coordinated with other churches through the North American Mission Board of our Southern Baptist Convention. The challenge of this trip is to restore homes, renew hope and reach hearts for Jesus Christ. Ocoee Outreach is a community ministry that provides free home repair to low-income home owners in Southeast Tennessee. This is a wonderful opportunity for a family to be "on Mission" together. The cost of the week is approximately $200.00 per person and includes lodging and most meals. Contact Dean Finch to learn more about this trip. Space is limited. Men's Building Trip, June 22-29 This trip will take the building team back to Diamond, MO, where they will be working with other churches in doing construction work. Wayne Miller leads the construction team. To learn more about their work, contact Wayne at 334-303-3803, 334-279-9003 or email at

Student Ministry February Events

Archways - February 2013

Please don’t miss our POW-WOW on February 3 . We will be going over the Agape Run and D-Now weekend. Please bring a covered dish. The AGAPE RUN will be held here at Taylor Road on February 9. It is a 5K and a 1 mile “fun run”. I am asking for “all hands on deck” for this event. I would love to see 100% participation from our Student Ministry. We want to show all of the love and support to Amelia and the Word family that we can. If you are unfamiliar with what this event is, please go to and read about it. We will have registration forms available at the Pow-Wow and there is not a good excuse why we all cannot be a part of this event; however, I have already claimed the last place spot for the 5K, so don’t try to steal my thunder. This event is not only a great way to show your support, but it is a great way to introduce new people to Taylor Road. Please support this event! Disciple Now Weekend 2013 will be February 15-17. Our theme this year is “Purity Matters”. Throughout the weekend, we will be discussing purity as a heart issue, a mind issue, and a body issue. We will be having Drs. Allen and Judi Jackson coming to speak to students and parents on the evening of February 16. The Jacksons are both on staff at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and they are great communicators. Dr. Allen Jackson is the head of the Youth Ministry Institute at New Orleans Seminary. We will provide a free dinner for parents and you will not want to miss the wisdom of this Godly husband and wife team. The parent seminar that they will be leading will be following a brief welcome and time of worship at 5:00 p.m. at Dalraida Baptist Church and will include a free dinner. The welcome and worship will be in the Sanctuary, and the seminar for parents, and dinner, will be in the fellowship hall. Please don’t miss this event.
