From Pastor Andy... Dear Family, Some organizations and associations are calling for a limited, two-month boycott of certain stores because of their censorship of the word “Christmas.” The boycott is part of an on-going campaign to encourage businesses, communities, and individuals to put Christ back into Christmas. The boycott runs from November 1 through Christmas Day. The targeted stores have refused to use the word Christmas in their television commercials, newspaper ads and in-store promotions, despite tens of thousands of consumer requests to recognize Christmas. Last year, one store issued this politicallycorrect statement to Christmas shoppers: “The store recognizes that many traditions are celebrated throughout this season and we feel it is important to display holiday signage that is inclusive to everyone.” Christmas is a “holiday” which is derived from the words “holy day.” Because of Jesus, however, it’s not just any “winter holiday.” For millions of Americans, the giving and receiving of gifts is in honor of the One who gave Himself. For any store to pretend that concept is not the foundation of Christmas displays political correctness at best and religious bigotry at worst. Companies with stores that censor the word “Christmas” want people who celebrate Christmas to do their shopping at their stores. In the past, boycotts have been very effective in convincing retailers to change their approach. For example, one older mainline company backed away from its censorship of the word “Christmas” and now even offers a “Christmas Club” on its website. May our church family be encouraged to shop, spend, and give as informed consumers! And may we truly believe that there is a “jingle all the way” with Jesus! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering Foreign Mission Offering

The national goal for this year is $175 million; our goal for Taylor Road Baptist Church is $24,000. What a privilege it is to give to this offering that has such a tremendous, direct impact on the lives and work of our international missionaries who are serving the Lord beyond the borders of our country. Please pray about the amount of your Lottie Moon offering and make it the biggest gift that you give during this Christmas season. Our missionaries are counting on us as they share their lives and the Gospel around the world in over 110 countries.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast Sunday – December 13 8:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall ($2.00 per person) We have much to be thankful for during this wonderful season of the year. Come celebrate the joy of Christmas as we pray to the Saviour, the One who gives us life. Join the fellowship of other men who love the Lord as we pray for our church and the bright future we have in serving Him.

Start the New Year off right by learning God’s way of handling money! Sign up now for the 10-week Crown Financial Ministries Bible Study which will begin on February 3. Or, if you cannot make a commitment for that period of time, you may want to sign up for the weekend (February 27-28) course Discovering God’s Way of Handling Money. Please contact the Church Office for more information or to sign up.

Be sure to check out the many great books and audio-visual items for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season that are available to our church members. For example, you may want to read the Lottie Moon story to learn about how she sacrificed her life so that others could live.

Both our adult choir and children’s choir are presenting musicals on December 13 and 20. The music is sensational and the children and adults have worked very hard to prepare for these special nights. Join us at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center to support your fellow church members and the future generation of believers as they present this powerful and, and in some cases, funny message of Christ.

To reach students for Christ and help them to become passionate followers of Him!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 I can’t believe it is December already! We had a great turnout last month for the Student Ministry Kick-off. “Thank you” to all who attended. Also, allow me to extend a very special “thank you” to those who helped with the set-up for that meeting. I am so excited about the things that God has in store for us in the next year! If you could not attend the meeting, I will be happy to fill you in on what you missed by providing information about events planned for the upcoming year. I am very excited about our Christmas Party this month. We will enjoy food and fellowship, and will remember the real reason that we celebrate Christmas. The party will be on Sunday night, December 20. It should be a lot of fun.

Jesus Messiah This is an incredible musical featuring a story-line that is sure to make you and your family understand and appreciate Christmas from a different perspective. It’s the story of a Jewish family who actually encounters the Christ child at the manger; and, then, struggles to decide whether to believe or not!!! What if you had seen the angels singing? What if you had followed the star and found the Babe in the manger? Would you believe? This musical drama is a great presentation of the Christmas story and the good news of Christ. Invite your friends and family to worship with us on Sunday, December 20, at 6:30 p.m.
