From Pastor Andy... John 20:7 The Face Cloth was Folded This is the month that the world celebrates the resurrection of Jesus! On the first resurrection Sunday, three days had passed since the death of Jesus. As John and Peter arrived at the empty tomb, they found that the handkerchief which was placed over the face of Jesus was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes, but was neatly folded. To understand the significance of the folded face cloth, you have to understand a little about Hebrew tradition. The folded face cloth related to the Master and Servant tradition. The servant would wait until the master had finished eating. If the master had finished with the meal, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers and mouth, clean his beard, and then wad up the face cloth and toss it aside. The wadded face cloth meant, “I’m done.” But, if the master got up from the table, folded his napkin and laid it aside carefully, the servant would know that the master was not finished with the meal. The folded napkin meant, “I’m coming back!” When Peter and John entered the empty tomb and saw the folded face cloth, it was Jesus speaking the words, “I am coming back!” The completed work of payment for our sins was finished in His death, but the present work of the power of His resurrection would bring them hope and is still bringing hope today! Jesus is still miraculously changing lives. Knowing this makes me want to shout in celebration!! The Lord is not through with me, or you, or Taylor Road Baptist Church! He loves us, and nothing can separate us from His love! I heard about a little boy who had done something he wasn’t supposed to do. His mother punished him. Because he was afraid that his mother was still angry with him, he went to the kitchen chalkboard where the family always left phone messages and he wrote on the chalkboard, “Dear Mom, if you forgive me, please wipe this out.” He then went to his room and returned about an hour later. To his surprise and joy, the chalkboard had been erased! As we bring our sins to the cross – to the chalkboard – Jesus erases them by His resurrection power! 3 nails + 1 resurrection = 4 given.

In His Love,

Andy

Sunday night on April 19 will be a special time for families to share dinner and a movie. At 5:30 p.m. we will serve a spaghetti dinner. The cost of the dinner will be $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children and the $20 maximum per family will apply. Each TRBC member who buys a ticket will receive a “free” dinner ticket to use as an invitation for an un-churched friend to join us for dinner and the movie FIREPROOF, which will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Make your plans to have dinner before the movie and to bring friends to encourage them in their marriages. Tickets can be purchased in the Church Office or in the Grand Foyer before and after church services. On Wednesday night, April 22, at 6:30 p.m., we will begin a study on how to Fireproof Your Marriage. This study will be taught by Lee Dymond and will continue for six sessions on Wednesday evenings. Plan now to view the movie with us on Sunday, April 19, and participate in the related study on Wednesdays.

GOAL $12,000

Our church goal is $12,000. The national goal for Southern Baptist churches is $65 million. The Annie Armstrong offering supports the work of our “home” missionaries throughout North America. Pray about your gift to this important work and give generously so that lost people may hear the good news that Jesus loves them and died for their sins. If you have not contributed already, we hope that you will do so on April 12, Resurrection Sunday.

MISSION BRAZIL May 30-June 6, 2009

TRBC has six people committed to go to Brazil this summer, May 29-June 6. Our group will join a larger team in building the walls for a new mission, prayerwalking in the community, distributing clothes (see Every Stitch a Prayer), participating in worship with the Brazilian people, and ministering to children and adults in the mission community. Those who have committed to go are Dean and Diane Finch, Ron and Catherine Moore, Tony Shaddix, and Chaz Williams. You can be a vital part of this mission work by supporting the trip financially and/or by praying faithfully for team members as they prepare to go and as they serve.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast Tuesday, April 14, 2009 6:45 a.m. - $2:00 per man. Come join the men of the church for a hot meal and great fellowship as we begin the day praying for the needs of our families, our church, our state, our country and for the cause of Christ around the world.

Turkey Shoot

Saturday, May 2, 2009 9:00 a.m. Calling all hunters and sharpshooters! This will be an exciting opportunity to see who can hit the bull’s eye. There will be several categories for participation and the Turkey Shoot promises to be a lot of fun for everyone. So, clean your guns, check your scopes and get ready to shoot. Look for more details in the Sunday School News and bulletins each week.

Every Stitch a Prayer Clothes that will be distributed to children in Brazil will be products of the Every Stitch a Prayer ministry that was recently organized at TRBC and is led by members Judy Denner and Marie Sellers. Men’s First Place 4 Health class is looking for new participants to join us this Spring! That’s right, our men’s class welcomes new participants to our next session beginning in April. Together, we can lose those strongholds, attitudes and behaviors that have kept you from building a temple fit for Christ. First Place 4 Health will help you put Christ first in your life, build a strong support system, be more accountable, and make good exercise and nutrition choices so you can serve God as long as possible. Since it’s inception in 2008, participants have lost more than 1,000 pounds by following the First Place 4 Health program, a faith-based weight loss plan supported and endorsed by registered dietitians and physicians. We meet in weekly support groups and follow a 12-week curriculum that is centered around achieving balance in four essential areas of our lives: emotional, spiritual, mental and physical. First Place 4 Health encourages members to adopt practical disciplines in all four areas. These include regular attendance and fellowship (emotional); prayer, Scripture reading and Bible study (spiritual); Scripture memory and keeping a food record (mental); and eating well and exercising (physical). First Place 4 Health helps members learn how to be victorious over past eating patterns and how to commit their minds and, ultimately, their bodies to God. Spring session for men starts in April. Participants must attend orientation to register. •Tuesday Men’s class at 6:45 p.m.: Orientation is April 7 at 6:45 p.m. - Room C301. Childcare is not available. All other First Place 4 Health classes will accept new participants starting in August, mark your calendars and join us then!

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

It has become a tradition at Taylor Road Baptist Church for the children and preschoolers to cover a wooden cross with beautiful flowers. What a treat to watch this simple base become even more beautiful as it overflows with flowers. It is truly an opportunity to envision God’s love and redemption for us as He transforms our dead lives when we receive His life. Each child, Birth through Grade 6, will be asked to bring a few flowers from home to place on the cross. You will want to see this creation and expression of God’s love as you attend church this Resurrection Sunday!
