For this project I was asked to

Processing and Storage | City Roots A

For this project I was asked to

design a processing and storage facility for City Roots Farm in Columbia, SC. The main concept of this design was the effective use of passive heating and cooling through natural lighting and ventilation.

Exploration of Paper Manipulation Techniques

For this project I worked through the design process to ultimately

design a paper lantern.Although the lantern was the end product of this project; it is how I arrived at this product that was the primary focus of my efforts.

Cinematic Architecture

For this project I was introduced to basic filming techniques,

storyboarding, and the notion of narrative as integral in the design process. The first portion of the project I had to analyze a film, Crouching TIger Hidden Dragon and choose three different scenes from the film to focus on. I then had to architecturally graph each scene as I part of the analyzing process. This portion of the project was the basis to arrive at the overall narrative later on in the project.

Frame/Section Assembly For this project I created six individual section

models and drawings that were to follow a certain type of narrative. The overall narrative of my sections followed this idea of confusion and as you walk through the space you slowly find your way.

26

Augmented Photography For the first portion of this project I defined five

different architectural elements; Transformation, parts to a whole, originality, connection and monumental. I then took multiple pictures of architectural elements and tried to relate these terms to five specific pictures. The five that I chose are shown on the right.

30

Horizontal Structure My overall goal was to produce a

model that used the least amount of wood as possible. I started with a rectangular prism shape and then incorporated triangles between

the planes of the prism. I formed a truss-like shape because truss system is a very popular form of horizontal structure. This structural system was the main idea behind my model.

Lateral Bracing For this exercise I focused on shear walls for lateral bracing.

I had to focus on the correct alignment of the shear walls so as not to inhibit the structural stability of the model.
