Volume 02

Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Friends of Tauranga Intermediate School What a fantastic start to 2013 we have had. This wonderful weather has enabled our students and teachers to make the most of our outdoor resources and further develop some of those fundamental skills with our students. Firstly we would like to start off with expressing our sincere thanks to all of you who attended our ʻMeet the Teachersʼ evening. There was an excellent turn out and the feedback that we have received has been extremely positive. We look forward to the ongoing partnership that exists between yourself, this School and in particular, your childʼs teacher. One of our key focuses this year is ʻattend, engage, participate and achieveʼ. These four elements are essential to the success of your child at this School. Please continue to support us with this and ensure that your child is here at School with what we refer to as “the tools of the trade”, and ready to learn. Finally, over the past couple of weeks we have been re-crafting our School Charter. The most consistent theme that flows throughout our Charter is that your child is at the centre of all we do. Further to this we have identified our Strategic Priorities which we believe are essential to ensure that your child is engaged, involved and able to take charge of their learning. Warm regards Senior Team

NZEI MEETING There is a proposed union meeting for NZEI staff set for the afternoon of Friday 15 March 2013. Should this meeting proceed, Tauranga Intermediate School will continue as normal through to 3:00 pm with school buses running as per normal.

Our issue policy is two books for two weeks. For new students, we recommend that they have a solid, plastic bag to take their issued books home in. Any damaged books will need to be paid for. We have just distributed the first order of Scholastic Book Club brochures. These are with classroom teachers. Orders in to the Library by next Tuesday, February 26th. Cheques to be made out to Tauranga Intermediate School. ! !

ACADEMIC REPORT Dear Parents/Caregivers, Thank you to all our parents who attended the ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening last Thursday. As mentioned previously the learning partnership that exists between you and your child’s teacher is essential to your child’s success. Our teachers’ doors are always open for discussion around learning and if at any stage you wish to touch base with your child’s teacher please make sure you organise to do so. Thank you also to those parents who filled in and returned the ‘Getting to know your Child’ information sheet. Teachers are currently reading through the valuable information this form gives us to help build a better overall picture of your child, including their strengths and interests. Empowering students to take charge of their learning is something you will hear a lot at Tauranga Intermediate School. This philosophy is supported by our Tauranga Intermediate School Curriculum where there is a significant emphasis on students being Caring, Critical and Creative Thinkers. You can help at home with continuing to be involved in your child’s learning and encouraging them to share their thinking and learning with you regularly. This reinforcing that learning is something they do. Dates to take note of are: •

Thursday 4th April – Learning Conferences
