The main topics were developed: a) Non-traditional stable isotopes of Mo, W, Cu, Zn, and Fe applied to the study of hydrocarbon geochemistry, b) U-Th/He in apatite and zircon, as well as Ar-Ar and K-Ar in minerals and rocks for thermochonology, c) Rock and oil dating using the Re-Os, Pb-Pb and Rb-Sr systematic, d) U-Pb and Lu-Hf in situ dating with SHRIMP and LA-HR-ICPMS of minerals for provenance of sediments study, e) Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr and K-Ar age determinations of clay minerals. Summary of achievements and perspectives Development, implementation and training of human resources in the field of stable isotope and its applications. Equipment to perform high precision measurements of relative abundances of hydrogen isotopes (D/1H) in geological materials and water (rain, surface water, underground water) and Sulfur technique of isotope analyses using LA-ICP-MS are being developed in some laboratories. In addition in the field of heavy stable isotopes, some reserchers has been working on the implementation of isotopic analyses of Fe, Cu and Mo. The four main laboratories involved in this INCT project have been equipped with a Neptune (ICP-MS with high resolution multicollector and coupled laser ablation system), but they are all under different stages of activities. The equipments has already been installed and, three of them performs U-Pb and Lu-Hf analyses in minerals. Dating of zircon with total Pb blanks of below 2 picograms allowed the laboratories to determine ages with high accuracy and precision, using volcanic layers intercalated with sediments from sedimentary basins. The determination of U content in apatite fission track studies using a Laser Microprobe coupled to a MC-ICP-MS was achieved confirming feasibility of the combined dating technique.
The laboratories involved in the INCT project made efforts to modernize the existing analytical techniques of Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd and Pb-Pb, increasing their accuracy, expanding their applicability to oil, and using the MC-HRICP-MS Neptune, in order to solve specific problems in the area of oil and gas exploration. Main publications No primeiro ano de desenvolvimento do INCT Pertrotec foram priorizadas a aprendizagem, aperfeiçoamento e implantação de tecnologias analíticas isotópicas que possuam aplicabilidade na exploração de petróleo e gás. A produção científica do grupo inclui 54 trabalhos de aplicação destas técnicas em diversos problemas geológicos e trabalhos de desenvolvimento de técnicas analíticas publicadas em periódicos indexados nacionais e internacionais, tais como Journal of Structural Geology, Analytical Chemistry, Journal of South American Earth Sciences, Journal of the Geological Society of London, Terra Nova, The Holocene, Tectonophysics, Geophysical Journal International, Gondwana Research, Journal of Geology, Ore Geology Reviews, Marine Geology, Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, Precambrian Research, Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências e Revista Brasileira de Geociências, entre outras.
