Tasburgh and Tharston Church Newsletter Feeding the Hungry with Norwich Foodbank Norwich Foodbank is a church-backed crisis food bank project to offer emergency food parcels to needy people across Norwich. Foodbanks provide three days of emergency food to individuals and families in real crisis, before the statutory authorities can get involved. The Foodbank also supports existing local charities working with distressed and destitute people by donating food in bulk. In the three months August to October 2011, Foodbank fed 824 local people in crisis (c. 275 a month). 90% of the people helped only ever need 1 or 2 food boxes from the Bank due to them working closely with care agency partners. This is a well run and much needed service. Food is collected locally, gathered in a central warehouse and sorted for use. Local care professionals in the Norwich area refer people to the Foodbank, where they are given a hot drink, supplies and direction. After hearing about successful Foodbank collection points in the Shotesham churches, we felt that our churches in Tasburgh and Tharston are also ideally situated in the community to help with this crisis management. You can help local people in crisis by buying items from the shopping list below and depositing them in your village church. The items in bold are those that Norwich Foodbank currently needs the most: Milk (UHT or powdered), Sugar (500g), Fruit Juice long-life (carton), Pasta Sauces, Sponge Pudding (Tinned), Tomatoes (Tinned), Cereals, Tinned Veg, Rice Pudding (Tinned), Tea Bags, Instant coffee, Instant Mash Potato, Rice/Pasta, Tinned Meat, Tinned Fish, Tinned

Tharston Church News Tharston Church Wardens Mrs Pat Read 530325, Mrs Sue Hubbard 530072 We had another splendid carol service this year. The church really looked the part, with a lot of hard work going on to create the wonderful atmosphere. Thanks to all who worked so hard, and to Tasburgh Choir for making it such a treat. We continue to open the church during daylight hours, which has been appreciated - but in order to continue this practice, we do need more volunteers, who will just do 1 or 2 weeks per year of unlocking each morning and locking up late afternoon. Please contact Barbara on 530739 if you are able to help.

Tasburgh Church News Tasburgh Church Wardens Vivienne Taylor 471790, Julia Orpin 470983 We were all deeply saddened by the loss of Pat Crowley in February. She has been such a faithful and kind-hearted contributor to the life of the church and the village for so many years, and she will be truly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go to John. Following on from our PCC retreat day, we have organised some more in-depth teaching days on a variety of themes, and hope they will be useful. For our first one, we welcome Maureen Bunting from Belfast and Sam Brinkley from near Diss, who will join with Adrian in opening up the topic of how Jesus heals the broken-hearted. We were encouraged again by our various Christmas events. Thanks to all who worked hard to make these such lovely occasions.
