Big fine for Sutton fly-tipper A Great Sutton man was fined £767 for fly-tipping when the case was heard at West Cheshire Magistrates Court. Christopher Boyle, 38, of Sutton Way, Great Sutton, entered a guilty plea to two offences of fly-tipping and was fined £425, ordered to pay £300 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £42. The court heard that he was captured on two occasions by CCTV fly tipping old furniture outside Sutton Way flats. When interviewed by officers from the council he initially denied the offences until he was shown the CCTV proving it was him. The council’s director of place operations Maria Byrne said: “Anyone tempted to fly tip their waste should be aware that it attracts stiff penalties and a custodial sentence is possible, even for first time offenders.”

Mayor Nicole takes the plunge Nicole Meardon is bringing down her year as Mayor of Ellesmere Port with quite a fanfare. Nicole, who lives in Little Sutton, is hoping to raise over £500 to support the Ellesmere Port Mayor’s Charity Fund with a 300ft bungee jump. Nicole said: “As my year as Mayor of Ellesmere Port comes to an end, I want to make sure I raise as much money as possible for the good causes I am supporting. So, I’ve decided to push myself to my limits and do a bungee jump!” She hopes hope to raise funds for West Cheshire Foodbank, Ellesmere Port and Neston Association of Voluntary and Community Organisations, the Oasis Youth Centre and 1st Sutton (Wirral) Scout Group. Nicole added: “These are all wonderful organisations that do so much for our town. There are so many people who volunteer their time to help others in our community and I hope I can raise funds for these great organisations so that they can continue their fantastic work. “Deciding to do this bungee jump was not easy. I will be completely out of my comfort zone and prob-ably scared stiff! So please make it worthwhile and sponsor me!” You can sponsor Nicole via the Justgiving website.

We would all like more space in our homes and with houses in the UK getting smaller, space is at a premium. But what if there was an affordable way to create more space in our homes? A simple solution for all those people fed up of living among clutter and one that doesn’t require planning permission or any major structural building work. For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited seasonally; once to dig out the Christmas decorations and then again to bring down the holiday suitcases. A precarious scramble across dusty beams, torch in hand; grabbing what’s needed then clambering back past boxes filled with long-forgotten belongings. But that dark and dingy place is worth thousands. In fact, it takes up a third of

Dave commented “We recognised Irby as a great place to stay and grow in, we like the space we are in. We’ve taken on 2 apprentices and making this significant investment into the building can only improve it.” “Our new showroom will be completely unique for the Wirral, and will revolutionise the experience of buying a new bathroom for our customers. A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?

A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply.

The first phase of the expansion to their upstairs showroom has begun with renovations to incorporate fully functional bathrooms settings including 10 operational showers and 12 working basins and taps all with the latest digital technology. Added to this under floor heating and a working sauna so clients can really ‘soak up’ the full Wirral Wetrooms offering.

Too old for acne? By Angela Bartlett, Owner Sensoria Beauty Q. I am 35 and it looks like I have acne. Am I too old for acne? A. Unfortunately, you are never to old for acne. In fact, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology states that 54% of women over the age of 25 are affected by adult acne. Adult acne can be deeper, more uncomfortable and more difficult to treat. It can also be a lot more distressing as you get older as you feel you should have outgrown acne in your 30’s and upwards. Look for skin care products with ingredients which treat the inflammation associatedwith acne without drying out the skin. For more information about adult acne and how to properly treat it visit the blog page at www. Q. I am considering having electrolysis for permanent hair removal on my face. How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Angela Bartlett is a highly qualified Advanced Aesthetician with over 34 years of experience in the beauty and holistic industries. She is a past Chairman for BABTAC & CIBTAC, teacher and International Examiner. Her expertise is currently called upon to judge national competitions, the provision training and quality treatments.

A. Your first treatment will involve a full consultation, so be prepared to disclose any medical conditions you have or any medications that you are taking as well as how long you have had the unwanted hair for and the the methods you have been using to date to remove the hair. If you have been plucking, waxing or shaving the hair it is a good idea to let it grow for at least for a few days so your electrologist can better assess the hair growth pattern. The initial treatment is usually fairly short to determine how you and your skin respond to treatment, so be prepared for all the hair you have present not to be removed in one go. Blooms for June T

here are many beautiful perennials flowering in June and it is difficult to choose which ones to have in the garden.

I would love to have delphiniums but the slugs get them in my heavy soil. However, if you can keep the slugs off, they can pop up each year with tall spires of rich blue, pink or white flowers. In autumn many will flower again if you cut the dead flowering spikes off in summer. Another reliable perennial for damper soils are the magnificent Rodgersias with their large Horse Chestnut shaped leaves and tall robust stems with white or red flowers. I saw them at Dunham Massey garden last year growing with huge Alliums. Alliums will flower each year and are often teamed with roses. Will thrive in heavier well drained soils and are especially good in drier borders. Shrubs can form the backbone of a border so why not indulge in a Deutzia. A small on Deutzia Gracilis has little white flowers or Rosealind a taller shrub to 1m with rich pink clusters of flowers. They will grow in sun or lights shade and any soil provided it is not dry. For a larger shrub or small tree one of my favourites are the Sambucus or Elderflower with the purple or golden foliage. Sambucus Black Beauty likes a damp heavy soil and has pink flowerheads in early summer. Make Elderflower cordial with the flowers and it will be pink! Roses are centre stage in June so make sure you feed them well with a proprietary rose feed, spray with soapy water to remove an excess of whitefly and keep dead heading them. Work to be done in the garden includes trimming Privet and Box hedging. Prune any shrubs that have finished flowering. Keep climbing roses and clematis tied in and under control. Keep removing any side shoots from tomatoes. Thin apples, apricots and plums where there are many fruitlets on stems to one or two. Continue planting radishes, small carrots and lettuces for succession. If you would like to visit gardens look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. 150 Barrel Well Hill, Boughton, Chester is open on 23rd and 24th June. A terraced garden with informal cottage garden planting and some unusual plants. Natural springs with a stream lined with bog loving plants. Burton Village Gardens are open on 23rd June with three gardens open, Briarfield, Burton Manor Walled Garden and Trustwood, ranging from more formal to informal gardens with a wide range of plants and wild life habitats.

LETTER FROM WESTMINSTER by Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Justin Madders

he Council are planning a “public services hub” for Ellesmere Port town centre. The reconfiguration of existing public services such as the job centre, pharmacy, GP’s surgeries and other community health facilities within the council offices will hopefully make the experience for customers of public services much more straightforward, however that is only part of what I consider to be the importance of this project; regenerating the town centre has to be key. As consumer habits have changed over recent years with more and more online shopping in particular, towns up and down the country have found that the traditional retail offer is no longer the attraction it once was. Even in the last few months we have had several banks announce they are leaving the town, as they are in many towns up and down the country. It is a source of great frustration that there appears to be no Government intervention or strategy to halt this continued exodus. I have long ar-gued that whilst big businesses should be made to have regard to their wider social responsibilities but we also need to think more about other ways of making our town centres attractive places to visit. Places to eat, drink and socialise can help move the balance away from reliance on pure retail in-cluding a much broader offer for people in the evenings.

To my mind, in order for the new public services hub to be considered a successful project, it has to be part of a wider regeneration strategy and not simply a new building in the town centre which is why I am pleased that the council is looking at such a strategy at the same time. A concentration of public services will hopefully increase the number of people using the town centre, but in order for that increase in visitors (and also hopefully new residents from some of the housebuilding going on in and around the town centre) to be capitalised upon, there has to be something to attract people there. It is therefore worth bearing in mind that much of the success of a wider regeneration strategy will depend upon how the private sector responds. Much of the town centre is in private hands such as the Port Arcades and whilst I believe the owners of the Arcades understand the need for change and have some interesting ideas which could help transform the town centre, there is also a need for the council’s plans to dovetail with that of the private sector, otherwise we will not see the maximum benefit for the town. There are examples of successful town centres around the country, but there are many, many more which have struggled to adjust to the changes in shopping habits. Ask yourself how much of your spending is done online now, compared to say ten years ago and what it is that would tempt you back into the high street? Please do engage with the council’s consultation and let me have your thoughts as well. 32 To advertise call 01244 350398

Round Table has a new chairman Ellesmere Port Round Table has announced Mark Howard as its chairman for 2018-19. Mark has taken over from Mark Rowlands and is looking forward to working with members to intro-duce a range of new social activities, and further support the community through fundraising events. Ellesmere Port Round Table was established in 1955 but sadly closed in 2002, in 2017 the table was re-opened after a number of local men got together feeling that a Round Table in the town was much needed by the community of Ellesmere Port, the group offers a place for men from all walks of life to simply have a laugh and discover a world of new activities while meeting like-minded individuals. The Table’s key events include there annual Santa float each year which raised £6,500 for local good causes in December as well as a number of social activities. Mark said: “It’s an exciting time to be part of Ellesmere Port Round Table as it is an organisation which is growing and giving more men in Ellesmere Port and the surrounding areas the chance to embrace life to the full. “I am looking forward to bringing something new to the Table, which will give existing and new mem-bers the chance to simply have fun and build long-lasting friendships.” For more information about Round Table, please visit Ellesmere Port Round Table’s Facebook page www. ellesmereportroundtable or call Mark on 07811 146073. 36 To advertise call 01244 350398
