Contents Dear Taraci Collection Client,

Millennials and the Turnover Crisis

Welcome to the 2013 edition of the Taraci Collection, our annual report on the best of the best products available for motivation programs, published by my company Taraci Motivation.

In addition to leading the industry with the best technology solutions, Taraci Motivation is known for its in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Millennial workforce.

Once again, we have selected items from the world’s most prestigious brands: cameras from Canon and Olympus; electronics from Apple, Sony, Bose and Samsung; golf clubs from Callaway, Cobra and Taylor; watches from Technomarine, Baume & Mercier, Victorinox, Vesace and Dior; and fashion items from Ferragamo and Michael Kors. Plus, I’m excited to be introducing two hot new items -- Air Play Speakers by Sonos and Jambone – which wirelessly stream your entire music library, music services and internet radio- a significant improvement over Bluetooth with pristine audio quality and a much wider range.

Technology Leader Selecting the best products for your program is only one part of the equation. The delivery system you choose for your incentive or reward program must engage your demographic in the most effective and impactful way.

Millennials or Generation Y, who make up about 20% of the population or 80 million young adults, are significantly different than their predecessors: Generation X and Baby Boomers. Old engagement techniques and incentive programs are not going to be successful with this group and might even prove to have a negative effect. At Taraci Motivation, we’ve created the world’s first program focused on motivating Millennials, which includes the latest technology innovations as well as ideal products and services for this complicated segment of the workforce. For more information on how Taraci Motivation can help your organization create a breakthrough incentive program, please call 212.243.7733 or email

Taraci Motivation, the recognized technology leader in the incentive space, has developed a series of tools to reach your audience including:

Tom Taraci

Taraci’s Mobile App – the first app that puts your incentive program on any mobile device.

Taraci Social Media Manager – the first app that activates your recognition program on Facebook. On the Spot Sales Incentives – An interactive, mobile program that gives sales mangers the tools to track sales and make awards in real time from their laptop, iPhone, Android or Blackberry.

:The Secret to If you’re like a lot of employers, you’ve had Facebook fatigue for a while. The fact that your millennial employees are logged on to the site during work hours drives you crazy–so crazy that you’ve considered blocking it. No Facebook! No Deal! According to Cisco’s second annual Connected World Technology Report, which surveyed 1,400 college students age 18 to 23 and 1,400 young professionals under 30 across 14 countries, the ability to use social media, mobile devices, and the Internet more freely in the workplace can influence job choice–sometimes even more than salary. Here’s the bottom line: Millennials long to work for cool companies, and blocking Facebook is the fastest way to make your company look like a dinosaur. In fact, 40 percent of college students and 45 percent of young professionals said they would accept lower-paying jobs in exchange for those freedoms. You read that right. Less money! It’s clear that it is time to stop thinking of Facebook as productivity’s number one enemy, and start thinking of it as the answer to engaging Generation Y.

Here are four reasons why Facebook is the secret to motivating Millennials: 1. Reaches Millennials Where They Are If you’ve tried traditional corporate incentive programs, you know that getting employees to use them (beyond the initial sign up) is half the battle. The answer, according to Jim Nichols of, is to “fish where the fish are.” Millennial fish, as we know, are swimming on Facebook. In fact, Price Waterhouse Cooper reports that 92 percent of United States’ Millennials belong to an online social network. The data is so overwhelming that it’s critical to view the Facebook/millenial connection as a no-brainer. That’s why facebook is the perfect home for your next program. Facebook has a big advantage over external Web sites with log-ins that may be forgotten, or old-fashioned rewards catalogs that may never get paged through. On Facebook, it’s all right there, easily accessed and updated in real time. Plus, since Gen Y tends to surf via smart phone, programs that reward out-of office habits (think wellness initiatives), are a perfect fit -- as users can participate while jogging on the treadmill or eating a healthy meal.

o Motivating Millennials 2. Praises them Publicly Millennials crave compliments and need reassurance that they are performing well, according to Barbara Keats, a management professor at the W.P. Carey School of Business. Remember, as kids, they earned trophy after trophy for “participation,” according to Knowledge Wharton High School. So it’s no surprise to learn that they are hungry for positive feedback. But like anything else in their lives, if it isn’t posted on their wall, it’s almost like it didn’t happen at all. In other words, accolades that can be viewed by their colleagues will pack twice the punch. Facebook makes it painless to commend and reward your employees publicly. 3. Provides a Group Infrastructure Millennials love a collaborative atmosphere and thrive when allowed to work in groups. They don’t mind sharing the glory of achieving things via team effort. With a Facebook-based incentive program, you can easily gather employees into teams, and allow them the option of working toward group rewards. Doing so will strengthen existing group ties, build new ones, and reinforce the work environment that Millennials consistently say they want.

4. Increases Value of Rewards Exponentially By seeing what their peers have earned and enjoyed, the rewards that you offer will grow in perceived value – and Millennial staffers will be more motivated than ever to rack them up. A recent study by Bazaarvoice reported that eight out of 10 Millennials value user-generated content above all other marketing materials. In fact, user feedback and reviews influence them so much that they simply will not purchase big-ticket items without consulting those resources first. With a Facebook-based incentive program, employees won’t just read about the volunteer trip to Cambodia that they can earn; they’ll also be able to browse testimonials from people who’ve experienced the trip first hand and loved it. In short, you know for a fact that your Millennial workforce loves Facebook. So why waste another minute bemoaning it? Instead, treat Facebook like the opportunity that it is: use it to boost productivity, foster loyalty and incentivize your employees.

The Best AirPlay Speakers Ditch the wires and fill your home with sweet sound with these top-notch Apple AirPlay-enabled speakers. AirPlay, Apple’s wireless audio streaming technology, is a solid option for anyone tired of connecting and disconnecting iDevices to their speakers. And with the introduction of the new Lightning connector on the iPhone 5, iPod touch, and iPod nano, wireless streaming is an even better choice, as we have yet to see speaker docks adopt the new proprietary connector. With AirPlay, you can stream music from one source to multiple speakers in various locations, provided that they’re all on the same Wi-Fi network. AirPlay works with iPhones, iPods, and iPads as well as over iTunes from a PC or Mac. AirPlay also transmits track metadata, such as the artist, album, and song title. And with iTunes, you can set volume levels for individual wireless speakers. In addition, you can stream music from internet radio and music services like Spotify, Pandora and Mog. So why choose AirPlay over Bluetooth for wireless streaming? Bluetooth used to have a reputation for poor sound quality, although that has largely been eliminated with the latest Bluetooth speakers. Instead, the difference is in features. Bluetooth wireless speakers can only connect to one device at a time. In addition, you have to be within direct range of the device, 33 feet is the theoretical limit, but in practice it rarely exceeds 20 feet even with a clear line of sight. Bluetooth is compatible with almost every mobile device, but AirPlay is strictly Apple – and thus only compatible with iOS devices, Macs, and Windows PCs running iTunes. AirPlay-compatible speakers and AV receivers connect to the source device via Wi-Fi, where tapping an icon allows any audio to stream effortlessly. If you’re tied to a lot of Apple products already, you’ll definitely want to give AirPlay a look. The compatible speaker systems are generally pretty expensive, but they also provide stellar audio performance. And as with most Apple-associated products, the speaker systems feature minimal and elegant design elements that are sure to fit in with the rest of your Apple ensemble.

Sonos & Jambone: Two to Consider Sonos: The Sonos family of products is in a category of its own. Designed from the ground up as a multiroom audio system, Sonos products use a proprietary wireless mesh network to communicate among one another. Rather than streaming audio from the iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch), Sonos instead uses those devices (as well as Android phones) as a remote control. The audio source instead comes from “the cloud” – Sonos works with nearly every service out there, including Mog, Pandora, Spotify, Sirius XM,, Slacker, Rdio, Songza, TuneIn Radio, Rhapsody, iHeartRadio, Wolfgang’s Vault, Aupeo, and Stitcher – and it can also pull your iTunes library from a networked PC, Mac, or NAS drive. Unfortunately, it’s not compatible with iTunes Match, but it will work with Amazon’s similar Cloud Player – if you want to take the time and effort to move your music collection there. Prices range from $299 for the Play: 3 (with built-in speaker) to $499 for the Connect: Amp (add your own speakers).

Jawbone Jambox JAMBOX delivers stunning hi-fi audio in a portable wireless speaker so compact you won’t believe it when you hear it. Unlike other portable speakers, JAMBOX is powered by a pair of proprietary, highly sophisticated acoustic drivers, unmatched in their ability to produce extreme high (tweeter) and low (woofer) frequencies from a single, ultra-small dome speaker. They work in concert with an innovative moving-wall passive bass radiator and airtight enclosure to deliver shimmering highs and thumping lows that you can literally feel - the richest sound all in the palm of your hand.

It Only Gets Better With Time JAMBOX is the only speaker in the world that gets smarter every time you plug it in. Just sync it with MyTALK, Jawbone’s industry-first online platform to download apps, software upgrades, and the latest features - including LiveAudio™, an immersive three-dimensional listening experience. Jambox’s integrated intelligence allows you to personalize it to your specific preferences. No other speaker on the planet is intelligent and updateable - but then again, nothing else is quite like JAMBOX.

hile walking on the treadmill at the

gym, a 25-year-old employee checks her iPhone to see how many points she has earned for losing weight as part of her company’s health incentive program. A 22-year-old takes a coffee break and checks his smartphone to see how many months he has been with the company– and how close he is to earning a gift for his length of service. On a business trip, a 27–year-old salesperson turns to his Android to check to see if he has reached his sales goal – and to pick out gifts he hopes to earn. Later, once he hits his goal, he orders his gift directly from his phone and gets a text message confirming his order. Millennials Expect Mobile We all know that Millennials (age 18-29) are a mobile generation. They use their mobile devices to communicate and connect, and also to consume content – specifically, to get information that’s relevant to them. Unlike previous generations, these 20-something employees prefer texting over other forms of communication and now expect to access everything from their favorite smartphone – including incentive programs. In addition, they consider their mobiles an instrumental life tool and are more likely to use smartphones than desktop computers. It’s clear, if employers want to reach and motivate employees in their 20s, they have to go mobile.

Mobile Improves Engagement Mobile incentive programs offer a huge opportunity to dramatically improve engagement –especially among Millennial employees. Rather than browse through a bulky catalogue or log into a company web site, Millennial staffers are more likely to turn to their phone for information about an incentive program. One of the most essential components of any successful incentive program is communication. Since today’s young employees don’t communicate by phone or e-mail, it’s best to communicate with them via mobile. That would include updates to the program to celebrating award winners via text. In short, mobile incentive programs offer a huge opportunity to dramatically improve engagement – especially among Millennial employees. If your company doesn’t go mobile with your incentive program, you’ll miss out on reaching Millennials. Giving them what they want where they want it will also earn your company big points with your employees. What About Older Employees? Of course, since your incentive program will still be available in traditional online and print platforms, the older generations will still enjoy the same access they always did. Plus, many are gravitating to mobile as well. Adding a mobile platform will only increase the effectiveness of your program as well as inspire a new level of excitement. It’s a win-win opportunity.
