Classic Mulled Wine Recipe
Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine (750 ml) – medium-bodied like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon
1 orange – sliced into rounds
1 lemon – sliced into rounds
1/4 cup honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
3 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
In a large pot, combine the spices and red wine, heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Avoid boiling the wine.
Add orange and lemon slices. Stir in honey or sugar. The longer you simmer, the more the flavors will meld.
If you’re using brandy, stir in before serving. Strain the mulled wine to remove the spices and fruit slices.
Serve hot. Garnish with additional cinnamon sticks or orange slices.
1/4 cup brandy (optional, for an extra kick)
Mulled wine is a warm, spiced red wine that's perfect for cozying up on a chilly evening. With a slow cooker, you can leave the wine on low for the day. Happy Holidays!

CHARITIES
This Holiday Season
The holidays are a time for giving, and while gift-giving is a large part of the season, it’s also a time to reflect on the needs of those around us. In Edmonton, several incredible organizations work tirelessly to support individuals and families in need. This season, consider contributing to these local charities, whether through monetary donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness.
Edmonton’s Foodbank
Edmonton’s Food Bank plays a critical role in helping families access food year-round, but the need becomes even more pressing during the holiday season. Consider donating nonperishable food items or funds to help ensure everyone has food on their table this Christmas. EdmontonsFoodbank.com
Christmas Bureau of Edmonton
For more than 80 years, the Christmas Bureau has been helping Edmontonians in need by providing festive meals and gift cards to low-income families. Your donations will directly help spread joy and ensure that everyone can experience the warmth of a holiday meal. ChristmasBureau.ca
Santas Anonymous
No child should go without a gift during the holidays, and Santas Anonymous has been making sure that doesn’t happen since 1955. You can donate toys, volunteer, or contribute funds to make a difference in a child’s life this season. SantasAnonymous.ca
The Mustard Seed
The Mustard Seed supports Edmonton’s homeless population year-round, but their winter and holiday programs provide meals, shelter, and warm clothing to those who need it most. A donation to their Christmas initiatives will help vulnerable Edmontonians stay warm and fed. Theseed.ca
Operation Friendship Seniors Society
Operating since 1969, supporting low-income seniors, Operation Friendship ensures that vulnerable seniors in Edmonton have access to housing, warm clothing, and holiday meals. During the holidays, your donation will help provide care and comfort to seniors in need. OFSS.org
Adopt-A-Teen
Part of the Christmas Bureau, Adopt-A-Teen provides gift cards to teens aged 13-17 who are often overlooked during holiday gift-giving efforts. A $50 donation ensures a teen receives a special holiday gift and knows they haven’t been forgotten. ChristmasBureau.ca
By supporting these incredible charities, you’re not only helping individuals and families during the holiday season—you’re contributing to a stronger, more compassionate Edmonton. These organizations collectively assist tens of thousands of people each year. For example, the Edmonton Food Bank alone helps more than 25,000 people monthly, while Santas Anonymous delivers gifts to over 20,000 children annually. Whether through meals, toys, clothing, or a kind gesture, your contribution can make a lasting impact on someone’s holiday—and their life.
