We opened back up on June 30th! It has been a loonngg 3 ½ months. Our everyday home lives have changed dramatically and things at Tanglewood have too. Thankfully because of the Paycheck Protection Program, we were able to retain the staff. The staff and board have spent the last several months working from home, the staff only coming in to feed animals, groom the trails and pay bills. The last

week in June we were busy readying the building and finishing preparations for a very different looking summer camp. The building has one entrance, one-way traffic, physical distancing, hand sanitizing and face mask requirements, and we had to remove all hands-on materials. We are only open Tuesday-Friday from 9am-4pm until the beginning of September. Summer camp has

been reduced by ¾ and the kids have to wear masks and hand wash as often as they can! Our counselors (our own staff, Ian and Maggie) have to wear masks all the time. All of our regular school, park, PreK and community programs have been canceled, and our fall fundraiser has turned into the virtual Trek for Tanglewood. Continued on next page

Tanglewood ’s Re-Opening, continued Thank goodness the outdoors is the same! That is something we have all noticed. People have been flocking to our trails during this difficult time. We have been told over and over how much people appreciate having our trail system open as a place to escape to during the lockdown. NATURE IS ESSENTIAL. We have known this, but now we really KNOW. The only place many of us feel safe is in our own homes and outdoors. We are so happy to have been able to keep our trails open during this difficult time.

Other than summer camp, none of our regular programming is able to run. We are recording a few of our programs for purchase online. We are also doing some live webinars for libraries and anyone else who wants them. We won’t be allowed to have any public programs for….? We don’t know how long. Until then, come visit our museum, outdoor aviaries and trails. Keep in touch via Facebook and subscribe to our weekly email. We are bobbing and weaving and ready for whatever comes our way. It’s a beautiful time of year for pollinators!
