The Scoop September 2011 ● Edition 4
En Avant’s First Annual Barbeque! En Avant’s first annual barbeque kicked off on July 28th with great success! There was a strong turn -out of staff, individuals, families, and guardians. The barbeque was held at Salem’s Pringle Park, where there was plenty of delicious food, entertainment and activities. We would like to give a special thanks to all of the homes and staff that brought food, and to En Avant’s party planning team, which included staff members Karen (Garden), Jennifer (Denmark), Kim (Shoreline), Jenna (Shoreline), and one of Shoreline’s own residents, Valerie. This team did an excellent job in organizing and coordinating the entire event! Thank you to Joel (Residential Coordinator for Jones and Hillview) for assisting with grilling the hamburgers and hotdogs, as well as Brigitt (Bookkeeper) for creating the great slideshow! We are looking forward to another great turn-out next year!
En Avant’s first winning candidates for the Employee Spotlight and Suggestion Superstar were announced at the recent Annual Barbeque. Nacole (Oneil) received the Employee Spotlight award and a $50 gift certificate for her outstanding work and excellence in great character. Kevin (Dennis) received the Suggestion Superstar award and a $30 gift certificate for his winning idea to purchase back braces to improve safe lifting and transferring techniques. Congratulations to both employees! Remember to cast your votes for the next Employee Spotlight, as well as enter any creative ideas that you may have for improving En Avant’s agency practices in October.

Reach Out When things go wrong, When you can’t hold yourself up anymore, Just reach out to those helping hands and Let them pull you back on your feet.
“House Managers” No More Your House Managers now have a new working title: Residential Coordinator. This name change was a request and En Avant believes that it better captures the professional breadth and depth of duties held by this position.
Those hands are always there. So when you need help, Remember there are hands to help you Through those hard times. All you have to do is reach out.
Safety Corner After several months of planning, auditions, filming, and editing, En Avant now has its own unique safety videos. We were previously using training materials that, though informative, were a bit dry and dull. En Avant’s videos will continue to provide important and entertaining training covering proper lifting techniques, food and vehicle safety, as well as infection control. Thank you to all of the staff and clients who participated in creating these videos! Special thanks goes out to Melanie (Wayne) who coordinated the making of these videos, as well as to the following featured actors: Jim (Hillview / Jones), Debbie (Oneil), Sari (Dennis), Victor (on-call), Dan (previous En Avant employee), Nathan (Residential Coordinator), Karla (Residential Coordinator), Sandra (Wayne resident), Cindy (Wayne resident), Richard (Garden resident), Doug (Dennis resident), and Linda (Shoreline resident). En Avant will be hosting a premiere party for all interested employees and individuals to come and screen the videos. Invitations will be sent out to each of the homes.
