TITLE HPC INFRASTRUCTURE GOES HERE AND RESEARCH AT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT QATAR Othmane Bouhali and Mazen A. R. Saghir
ABSTRACT High performance computing (HPC) plays a key role in any ambitious research strategy. The Qatar National Research Strategy has included HPC and computational science as one of its major development goals, to enable more complex problems to be tackled and to carry out more realistic simulations. With the commitment Texas A&M University at Qatar has made for the development of the State of Qatar, the university acted proactively and established dedicated programs to promote HPC infrastructure and research activities to advance the frontiers of science and engineering. These programs have placed the university at the top of HPC groups in the country and among the key players in the region.
HPC INFRASTRUCTURE The advancement of HPC infrastructure enables researchers to conduct cutting edge research in a large number of fields. As a consequence, in industry, it helps reduce the time between the design and commercialization of a product. On the other hand, in research, it allows us to tackle problems that in the past were viewed as intractable. Aware of the importance of this critical resource for scientific research, Texas A&M at Qatar was the first to acquire HPC skill-set and technology in Qatar. The high quality standards established by the university for its research output required investing in intensive computing power, state-of-the art technology and highly-skilled personnel.
