Citrus Classic to Benefit Winter Haven Hospital Foundation The Winter Haven Hospital Foundation Citrus Classic, a community-wide health event featuring a 5k Run and Fun Walk, will take place April 6 at Legoland Florida. Proceeds from the Classic will benefit the Foundation’s Fund for Women and Children, which focuses on expanding access to medical care for women and children in Polk County. This is Legoland’s second year as host for the Citrus Classic. The not-for-profit, communityowned Winter Haven Hospital serves as Legoland Florida’s official hospital, and provides support for the healthcare and medical needs of park visitors as well as the occupational health needs of employees. “We are very excited to bring the Winter Haven Hospital Foundation Citrus Classic back to Legoland Florida and renew our commitment not only toward the health of our participants, but toward the future healthcare needs of women and children in Central Florida,” says David Johnson, director of finance at Legoland Florida. Johnson is a Winter Haven Hospital Foundation trustee and also serves as the 2013 Citrus Classic chair. “The fact that a fun event like the Citrus Classic can also have a positive long-term impact on healthcare in Central Florida only makes it more special for everyone.” Hundreds of participants are expected to take part in the Citrus Classic. Registration fees are $30 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and under. Winners will receive a specially designed Lego trophy. An exclusive Legoland Florida discount ticket offer will also be extended to every race participant to enjoy a full day of play following the event. Participants can register at www.active. com or by contacting the Winter Haven Hospital Foundation at 863-292-4138 or foundation@ winterhavenhospital.org. “We are extraordinarily grateful for Legoland Florida’s active and enthusiastic participation in the Citrus Classic, a great Winter Haven community tradition,” says Eric Adamson, chairman of the Winter Haven Hospital Foundation. “We saw a dramatic increase in participation last year, largely due to the fact that Legoland Florida is such an attractive location for our runners. Because of the park’s great appeal, we see the Foundation Classic growing into a major regional sporting event that brings participants from throughout the state of Florida and even from across the United States.” For more information about this year’s event or the foundation, go to www.whhfoundation.org.

Kids Encouraged to Explore at Festival Families are invited to come out to the Explorations V Children’s Museum in Lakeland this month for a special springtime celebration in honor of the nationally recognized “Week of the Young Child.” The children’s museum, 109 N. Kentucky Ave., hosts its annual Children’s Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20. Attended by thousands each year, the event focuses on the importance of integrating playful, interactive learning into education programs and designing creative experiences for kids to expand literacy and language development. This year’s event promises to offer plenty of entertainment, exhibits and hands-on activities. In the past, kids have taken part in such activities as building wood art and creating finger butterfly puppets.
