Store owners in Berlin like to boast that their city’s shops offer gifts for the “hard to buy for” loved one. Some say the apparel, quilts, jewelry, fine art, crafts and crafting items, antiques, floral accessories, furniture, homedecor accents and other gifts are as distinctive as the city on the Fox River that offers them. Berlin collectively celebrated its Christmas earlier this month. Earlier this month, the city hosted its 27th Annual Lighted Holiday Parade. That same week, Berlin held its Annual Musical Open House, with stores featuring live music, refreshments and some hot drinks for holiday shoppers. Although this year’s parade and musical open house already are behind us, Berlin remains ready to accommodate shoppers for whom the usual big-city mall fare is inadequate, unimaginative and lacking in originality. Berlin’s stores are featuring extended hours during the next month, with many open Friday evenings to better fit into Christmas shoppers’ hectic schedules. Gift-givers are invited to visit Berlin during the coming weeks to find out why many people keep returning to the city in which, it is said, folks can “get a glimpse of what you can’t find anywhere else.” They can also can take a pause from their gift selections to attend the 10th Annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. at The Federated Church of Berlin. Tickets for the event are available at the church, Field Card & Gift Shop, Goodrich Home Furnishings and at Berlin Printing, or by calling 920-290-3197.
