How the criminal mind works never ceases to leave law enforcement investigators scratching their heads. Take the case of two Jacksons Gap men who are facing two counts each of third-degree burglary. Shannon Dale Tate, 45, and Thomas Randall Morris Jr., 33, both of Point Windy Drive in Jacksons Gap, are in jail awaiting final charges and bond being set. Officials say vehicle collisions involving deer are on the rise in Elmore and Tallapoosa counties, and state biologists have answers for the rising rates. According to Alexander City Auto Body Collision body shop manager Chris Davis, about 50-percent of the vehicles they were currently working on were there because of deer related run-ins. Those cases start rising in October. However, Davis said, recent occurrences are on par with recent years. Brad Price, owner of Price Paint and Body in Wetumpka, said he had noticed more work than normal on damage to vehicles from deer at his shop — an estimated $18,000 worth. “This is the time of year that we’re extremely busy with deer wrecks and this See CRASHES • Page 3

That’s the message being delivered by Junior Leadership Lake Martin, which has launched a drive to collect shoes to help the poor. Used and new shoes, both adult and children’s, can be dropped off at all local high schools, elementary and middle schools in Alexander City, Dadeville, New Site and Reeltown. Other drop-off locations include Harbor Learning Academy, Jacobs Ladder and Woody Woodpecker Day Care in Alexander City. The shoes that Junior Leadership Lake Martin collects will be delivered to Soles4Souls distribution facility in Wadley. Soles4Souls is a not for profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing. Founded
